I had a number of profs who would have very demanding exams, typical averages of 65-70, but the other components still made it so the average final grade was in the 75 neighborhood, right where it should be.
note: done right, tests should be hard. they should really make you stretch, and leave feeling mentally exhausted.

eh, lab TAs can make your life hell if they arent very good

I was putting gas in the gar this morning and looked down and saw a q-tip had been discarded next to the pump. What kind of person cleans their ears while pumping gas?

My first two chem classes I had absoloutely AWFUL TAs.

The first one gave us a 10 point curve so he kinda made up for being shitty. The second one was fucking terrible with no curve. Couldnt understand a word she said, was never clear on what she wanted in lab write ups. Graded like a Nazi.

My TA for O chem is great and lenient.

don't get me wrong, I was NOT easy as a TA, and developed a reputation for being a tough grader. however, expectations were quite clear, especially after the first couple as I gave a ton of feedback as to what I was looking for. People who ignored that feedback continued to get poor report grades. people who used the feedback, and, even further, came to talk to me about their labs before passing them in, got great lab grades.
I also developed a rep for being able to explain things in a way that the prof couldn't, so that the students understood. my help center hours were always packed.
are you in ochem now? feel free to pm me if you have questions and I'll try to help

Ive got no problem with a hard grading TA/Professor. As long as said TA/Professor is not an incompetent retard.

yea im O Chem now. Im awful at chemistry in general tho. Aiming for dat C

chemistry and calculus are the worst.

GPA in actually environmental science classes is like a 3.6. GPA in Calc and Chem classes is like a 2 lol

LSU Researchers Discover How Microbes Survive in Freezing Conditions

Most microbial researchers grow their cells in petri-dishes to study how they respond to stress and damaging conditions. But, with the support of funding from NASA, researchers in LSU’s Department of Biological Sciences tried something almost unheard of: studying microbial survival in ice to understand how microorganisms could survive in ancient permafrost, or perhaps even buried in ice on Mars.

http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/2013/10/a-better-year-for-the-cryosphere/

This summer, Arctic sea ice loss was held in check by relatively cool and stormy conditions. As a result, 2013 saw substantially more ice at summer’s end, compared to last year’s record low extent. The Greenland Ice Sheet also showed less extensive surface melt than in 2012. Meanwhile, in the Antarctic, sea ice reached the highest extent recorded in the satellite record.
