I already went over this in the last thread you talked about it. The blocking doesn't work that way. The LG actually contains the corner because the FS sits back.

the fact that it "doesn't" work that way doesn't mean it shouldn't work that way.

Ya just like if you run a 5 man front a team should never get more than 1 yard right?

"never get more than 1 yard" is obviously an exaggeration but a 5 man front should be difficult to run up the gut against, yeah.

And it is. Just like it is difficult to stop someone from getting an easy 5+ yards with a 3 man front.

I can't emphasize this enough.

ASU has a full superstar offensive line. Not just superstar, but superstar + early bloomer + run blocker. You take the current blocking skill SP costs and subtract 20% (superstar), then another 5% (EB), and then another 8% for run blocker and that's how little we're paying for run blocking skills. Just looking at a random guard, we already have 75 run block tech and 65 power. I would have killed for Hub City to have that kind of ability in soph.

That being said, earlier this season, we played No Name and I knew that if we ended up in 2nd and 8 or more, they'd call Edge 2 Buzz, which is a dime 3-2-6 play. I specifically called inside runs in those situations. We ran inside against a dime 3-2-6 play that blitzed the edge (read: TE locks down the LOLB and you're left with 5 OL and a FB vs. 3 DL and 1 LB) and averaged less than 5 YPC. If that doesn't illustrate how fucked up running is in GLB2 right now, I seriously can't think of anything that would.

Still salty? It was already shown with your superstar O-line you had 0 investment into sprinting/quickness. Also - this wasn't a change from this most recent season - if this game had happened last season - same thing would have happened.

Not that it would've mattered. You were running inside in ridiculous situations like 3rd and 8, 3rd and 13, etc.. I could've run pretty much anything except ZEB vs 4WR and would've been able to stop you from converting every single 3rd down. If you took all the time you spent whining on the forums and used half of it to put in logical offensive gameplans, your team would probably be more successful.

we were running inside on 2nd and 8+ and there's no such thing as a "logical offensive gameplan" when there are literally 2 outside runs that average over 5 ypc against the defense getting called against you.

I won't say they would be this or that position in ladder with boosted players but it's easy to figure they would grab a few places very easily.

EDIT: btw the fact that the highest ranked run team in Soph is full of non boosted players tells more about the others running team than about the balance of the game in the early level.

The difference in players in sophomore isn't much. Generally because tackle breaking isn't much of anything. Dan does put together a good run defense. Also their 3 quality wins this season? ASU 7-0, Omaha 3-0, and INHS 3-0.

Even with the investment in sprinting and quickness it is difficult to put together much more than 7-9 yards against that play. And that is assuming all the blocks line up just perfect with no missed awareness's or broken blocks. But that is fine with me. I know that will change once guys can regularly break tackles and I am fine with moving the chains in that manner. It is more than I can say for many other plays that hold most of the plays in the book when they really shouldn't at all.

I bet a lot of that lack of success was due to your guard or center being a dumbass and trying to block a blitzer off the edge instead of blocking straight ahead.

Even blocking straight ahead you are gonna run into problems without breaking tackles.

Yeah...Manhein wins because of defense, not offense.

Yes because defenders are quick enough to converge into the middle and blow it up. If you can't break a tackle or 2 you are just running into a mess of defenders.

The MLB complicates the situation by sometimes breaking the opposite direction of the play and then coming back confusing the OG. Then the next confusion comes into play when CB3 runs over depending how fast he is he can reach the HB or gets there before the FS. This is all assuming your Center doesn't lose a block interaction against the NT. But generally you get about 6 yards on perfect blocking and the extra 3-4 yards depends on whether you can carry a defender or your HB makes a few moves around the wall of defenders.

This is essentially what you get if all goes right. As you see the wall of defenders builds up right around 6-7 yards and without moves like Juke or Power Thru working there it is generally going to be stopped right there.

another look at how quick that wall of defenders gets built despite the blocking working out.

decent logic would dictate the FB blocking CB3, the LG blocking the FS, and the HB bouncing outside at tick 32 or so.

That is asking quite a bit for sophomore level skills.

not at all. Fast forward to tick 32. If you just freeze frame it at that point, the LG is already going after the FS, the FB is looking closer to the direction of the CB3 than the direction of the SS or MLB. The fact that it's in the "inside run" playbook shouldn't dictate where the HB is allowed to go after he's broken through the line. Any semi-intelligent (we're talking like 40-50 run awr, not even a crazy amount) should be able to see that there's a dickload more room behind the FB than there is trying to just jam it down the middle of the field and running into a wall of flesh.
