That's a shame, but I totally understand the desire to step back from the rigors of DCing. My rookie team is on default and I love it, just get to watch some rookie dots run around and do bizarre stuff.

Yeah, DC'ing just takes a lot more work than OC'ing. I was tired of the obligation to make gameplans for multiple teams almost every day. Making sure I had gameplans in before I went to bed or having to do them in the morning. I just need a break from coordinating.

That's probably the real reason I OC...I'm lazy. LOL

It's rough. We do invest money into our teams/players/etc, but I also don't want to feel like GLB is hurting my social life, or sleep, or whatever. Or having to take "bathroom breaks" at work so I can continue working on a gameplan from my phone. That would get a little awkward at work when someone asks you where you ate so they can stay away from possible food poisoning. (Hasn't actually happened, but I worry it will)

I'm getting pretty burnt out DCing just one team. Often I spend close to an hour scouting and then I realize I have only looked at one formation. It would be pretty hardcore doing it for multiple teams.

Simplifying the DC tactics interface wouldn't make it less time consuming at all, right?

DC'ing one team is enough for me... it's just too much work.

Do you not have Stobie's scout tool? An hour for 1 formation seems like an awfully long time.

I generally scout like this:
1) Check to see what they do for every formation, adjust playbook accordingly
2) Check yardage situations, especially short, adjust playbook to either add/remove inside/outside run blitzes etc
3) Check their 2 minute offense
4) Compare tactics with playbook to make sure things match up
5) If I really care about the threat of losing a match, I'll check for oddities and adjust depth charts to best fit my personnel against those oddities

If 4 matches up, easy peasy gameplanning session. If 4 doesn't match up, then that's what takes awhile. Have to go back and figure out what yardage situations on what downs for which formations I can get away with doing a playcall that's less than optimal.

I used to spend over an hour DC'ing each matchup. I've cut it down to 15 - 20 minutes for most teams, and if it's a big matchup I really want to win, maybe 30 - 40 minutes. But yes - it is still a lot of work.

Use the GLB tool. It takes no time to game plan with it.

That is the hard part. It's just the nature of the fast and easy system we have. The time consuming part is not figuring out what i want to do, but figuring out how to do it.

I look at the 2WR set first because it is the most dynamic. I look at first down then 2nd and 3rd short yardage separately if there are different play types involved. It's tough when I want say cover 1 CB fire on first down and Shallow Sam on third down, I start getting a bit stumped and look for alternatives.

Then on to the 3WR set. Generally a pretty simple set unless a lot of trips pitches are thrown in with all the passes. just lining these two formations can be a challenge.

At this point I say f it and call some generic stuff in for 2TEs and spread because it has taken way too long to do very little.

I always want to win and generally do not have the roster to coast.

The scout tool does very little when it comes to lining up tactics.

That's step 1 though (for me at least), decide if I want to sell out against the strongside run, or go a little more conservative. Putting both of them in the same playbook doesn't make sense. You can have matching 100 Short 100 Blitz plays, but only if their function is the same. Shallow Sam can be a decent pass defense, while squeezing CB Fire in depends on very specific offensive playbooks (Screens, strongside runs, plays that don't utilize WR2 much). So they're an "either or" but not both situation.

Step 4 is all about if the tactics would call the right play on 1st down for 2WR but the wrong play for 2TE. Step 4 is just matching up each formation so the right plays get called. If they don't match then switch to a less optimal play that would fit.

If they use 2WR a lot more heavily than 2TE, then the less optimal play that fits the tactics goes into the 2TE section.

This has been my defensive plan ever since season 3 (when I started coordinating).

- leave tactics all blank except for blitz% and zone%
- choose the 1 or 2 plays I want to run against every formation - this means you're going to give some things up but that's ok.
- on rare occasion insert middle overload for short yardage and adjust tactics

Can use Zone % to manipulate whether you call the same play every time.

I know it isn't optimal..but it has generally been good enough for most games and it only takes ~3 minutes to scout.
