Sure does when your backers are 3 levels higher than the competition.

Go up against an experienced OC that knows the game and you will see. I used to run the 3-4 exclusively. Did so for 8 seasons, so I speak from experience. Good OCs on good teams will run inside at a 3-4 and commit the offense going 4 downs and seldom punting. The result will be they keep possession of the ball and win a low scoring game. Then when Bort changed the SIM and implemented the new D play creator he put the nail in the coffin. Now the average teams will beat the 3-4. Here in rookie leagues all the Dots are so slow with so little carry that tackling has the advantage over carry so you can get away with it to some extent, but it will hurt you in the playoffs.

The 3-4 is no longer viable as a primary D, it's only good for passing D and special situations.

Watch this game. http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1446917

When watching you need to know, my 3-4 was seldom ranked lower than 6 against the run, normally higher though despite being in Elite Leagues where Innsmouth was far out leveled both average team level and effective level. Oh, this team was a lower average level than us and I think just a few points higher in effective levels. Was the first time I was beaten by a team lower in levels than me.

You have to build the defense around the scheme. I wanted to run a 3-4 with this team so I have asked all the agents on the defense to build them a certain way knowing what this will mean in the Pro's. Yeah, get into some trouble while everything is still being built, but I think we will be competitive in every league will we be in going forward.

I ran this defense
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=1100760

As a 3-4 defense for the first 4 seasons, we were top 4 in total defense each season with 1 gold and 2 silver [would have bee more but that was when Atlatis Eclispe was SSSSSB and we got stuck with them].

And Guyana isn't a slouch, so losing to them running a 3-4 , 4-3, or 4-4 really wasn't a big surprise. The offense has to help the defense out as well...getting 150 yards of total offense isn't helping the cause.

The defense was build to be a 3-4. We have a core of Agents that started with us to do just that. Yea, the offense had an issue, it was build to dominate time of possession, but we were never able to keep enough of a threat outside to move some of the D out of the box. Still, we put down some top notch teams. You can check the undefeated thread and you will find us there ending one of the longest streaks.

Not taking any anyting from your team - I also DC Houston Aggies so you guys worked them over a few times. I'm just saying that a 3-4, at any level, can be effective if built and schemed properly. Sometimes it doesn't matter though, you will lose games against better teams, and sometimes you will beat them.

The defenses for the 3-4 in seasons 1 and 2 will be different than 3 and 4...and so on.

At best when even matched with Good Coordinators the score could flop 21 points either way IMO, the goal being to win more then you lose of those close contests.

Didn't realize I'd played you before. Took a look at last season and there you were. Offense did what it was build to do. That Grendal is a pure power HB. Build to get 3.5 yards a carry and beat up defenses. The bonus Bort gave the D line hurt power backs though and few teams want them anymore. Now he's playing on some loser team so he can keep training. Belongs in the WL on a team of top notch O line. One thing I regret not trying was a good outside thread QB with him. Maybe one day I'll give the Power Back another try.

Well, the LOL bars like the Cubbies.

The Cubbies are primarily a running team, South Side has the 4th best D vs. the rush. South Side also has a stiff pass defense, rated #1 in yards allowed.

South Side has played the stiffer schedule so far.

Cubbies are featuring a 3-4, not good for stopping a good running game, which of course is the dominate style at the rookie league level. And a quick look at South Side shows they do a fair amount of inside running.

I'm riding with South side this game.

Wow, OT win with a return. Definitely GOTW.

Yup GG. I saw a few things I need to correct in our AI. Should have scored twice but the AI was not prepared for the situations. GG and GL to you guys rest of the way!
