Quite frankly it is the nature of any video game. Gamers find holes in the system. They'll fix the blocking problems/coverage problems and something else will pop up...

Everyone else in APL has chimed in, and I've been drinking. So, here goes.

YES, they are exploit blitzes. They take advantage of a hole in the sim, in this case the blocking dynamic. That is an exploit. My DC and I were talking about his a couple of weeks back, and we agreed that we wouldn't use these exploits. Just like we didn't use any of the others that we knew about in seasons past.

In the end, some people care more about getting the "W", then they do about playing in the spirit of the game. I remember in the Islam days, I was so proud to be part of Africa, because everyone seemed to play with integrity (as LL puts it), and people didn't exploit the hell out of it. I miss those days more and more.

No matter what though, everyone pays their own hard earned money to play this game, and they have a right to play it how they see fit, as long as its with in the rules of the game (+10 eq). So I'll never call anyone out for doing so. I have to admit that I did lose some respect one team in particular when I saw that they were using those blitzes.

This blitz is nothing new. It's gotten us a few times throughout the season. Nothing to see here.

I think the real issue is that it was brought to attention in the bugs forum... and its been how long?
If its not intended, why is it taking so long to get fixed?

Guys should be in that bugs thread instead of having a pissing match in the regional forum.

Hell... we have the "Lead Tester" checking in the APL forums... No one has asked him about it here?

I've mostly just tried to use it against teams I know use it, however, I forget sometimes that I have it there. I also noticed a few other plays I had for WWR that looked freaky(AKA Quick Sack before the QB could do anything) that were not at all planned.

the title of lead tester is just a title, as of the last 2 ssns. Unfortunately, nothing is going on on the test server at all, and I mean literally nothing. As for "exploit blitzes" there are ways to stop every one I've seen in WL, so much so that the PO teams I watched didn't blitz much at all. Instead, they played coverage. D9 was an exception, and it cost us a few long TDs, but it was still worth it to try to get pressure, since we consistently sucks ass all ssn long at trying to stop 3rd and 234534532534253245 (exaggeration for emphasis). Converting 3rd and 15 was every bit as easy against us as 3rd and .5, unless we got some pressure. I think we got 1 sack off of "exploit blitzes" in 2 PO games, but the teams also GPed on O to stop them.

Really long story shorter, unofficially I don't believe Bort would view them as exploits, as there are ways to stop them. Personally, I agree that there's some "issues" with blitzing and some other stuff.

P.S. This is why I believe Bort doesn't view them as exploits (though just my unofficial opinion)

In my experience with Bort, so long as there's a counter, a risk/reward, he seems to be cool with it. Well, the quote above is the reward. Frankly, I don't know why Palmer is saying he didn't meant to run the ones he did. I watched the game and WWR seemed to run the hell out of them. Personally, I thought Randey had put in a good D GP and never thought of him or WWR trying to "exploit" the game, but that was just my opinion.

Really, the most messed up part of all of this, IMO, is that there aren't more O play options (something I've tried to push for 2 ssns now...at the very least, just give each pass play the ability to send both backs out) and that the game doesn't have some "if" "then" statements for both the O and D...As in, If the D sends x # of blitzes more than y times, then do this...or, If the O passes to the HB X # of times, then do that against this formation. As the game stands right now, no one on either side of the ball has any ability to adapt. Then again, it's also complicated enough to set GPs and that would add even more time, at least to initially setup.

Sucks we had play against ya... you kinda know how we are built and how we do things.
You did a fine job though... Just make sure the Warthogs are out of here so we don't have to do that game all over again.

NP, Steve, but I did add a long PS, and part of that addressed Palmer. Even though you may have been partially joking, if you have a right to scream at Palmer, the Hogs have the right to call for WWR's head, IMO. That said, I don;t think anyone did anything "wrong," but that's just my opinion and it's not really worth any more than anyone else's

He knows I'm 100% joking. First thing I did was congratulate him in the WWR team forum.

I'm a big Palmer fan! Great guy and a straight shooter. We wanted his best, we gave Nairobi ours and we know the result.

Lots of respect for you PP, but I have to disagree. I'm not saying all overload blitzes are exploits, but I am saying that some are.

In this replay you see the TE blocking on the left side, and the HB stays in to block too. 7 blocking 5. You tell me as an OC what you could have done to stop that sack.

Here's one from a Redhorns preseason game.

Now, the TE isn't on the left hand side on this one, but the HB is left in to block. I mean crap man! Didn't even get a chance to see the QB shooting lasers out of his eyes! How fast does the HB have to be to pick that guy up anyways?! 6 blocking 5. The biggest problem I have with this, is you shouldn't have to keep your TE in to block, on the left hand side, as the only way to stop 5 people rushing the QB. (and as seen above, sometimes it still doesn't matter)

Everyone knows that its a flaw in the blocking coding, and thats why they do it, and why it is an "exploit"
