Zeta Conference Rankings

Formula Changes this week:
Decreased roster assessment 10% - Top gainers - FPQA, Mauna, Uluru
Increased statistics assessment 5% - Top gainers - Melbourne, Horsemen, Tonga
Increased opponent-adjusted margin of victory assessment 5% - Christchurch, Melbourne, Fuego

An interesting thing I noticed while inputting the data this time - there are 8 teams who have given up over 1000 yards on run defense and 8 teams who have given up fewer than 667 yards - a huge gap to find in the middle of the rankings. It is perhaps no mean concidence that the 8 teams with winning records are the 8 teams under 667 rushing yards.

1. Melbourne Thorny Devils (114.3) - As if their advantage wasn't already big enough, Melbourne decided to add a new left tackle this week. That'll be the key in holding off FPQA this week, no doubt.

2. Tonga Thunderbirds (95.5) - Hard to say anything here that their El Fuego game performance didn't already make clear. The schedule toughens up after this week, as teams like the Horsemen, Ramekins and Wolverines will be looking to score an upset.

3. Bikini Atoll Mushroom Clouds (91.4) - A quality win (and a new add in the secondary) keeps them in the championship discussion. They always seem to win the close ones, a talent that should serve them well with the Ramekins and Wolverines on tap.

4. El Fuego (88.3) - The Tonga game hurt in more than the W-L column, as they were knocked off many of their "stat leader" perches. Nevertheless, their roster assessments and historical margins of victory help blunt the damage to their ranking. It could be a very interesting week for them. Christchurch may have the best gameplanning in the league.

5. North Marinara Islands Ramekins (85.9) - They haven't gotten much press so far, but the Ramekins have the game of the week against the undefeated Shrooms. An upset is going to take everything they've got. Will the Ramekins' rush game overpower the Shrooms' passing game?

6. Dunedin Wolverines (81.1) - Solid win over Uluru keeps them slightly ahead of the Horsemen for the coveted number 6 spot. A change at the LT position helps some, but its the defense that's held them back so far.

7. Four Horsemen (80.8) - The loss against the Shrooms was close enough that they actually earned a few margin of victory points. They've got an advantage on their opponent this week, but Coney Island needs this one to get back in contention.

8. Christchurch Knightmares (77.9) - They crack into the playoff areas of these rankings for the first time this season, despite a lower-levelled roster. While it might shock some others, I would not be completely surprised by a victory versus the Fuegos, though such a thing would certainly not be an easy accomplishment.

9. Chinese Bandits (73.0) - The bad news is that they are 2-4 and have terrible tiebreaks against likely playoff spot rivals. The good news is that the remaining schedule isn't that daunting, with 7 teams they outlevel. However, one of those teams is Christchurch ... there's a July 4th game that may be for a lot more than just bragging rights.

10. Coney Island Warriors (72.9) - It's the moment of truth for the Warriors. Horsemen, Ramekins, Wolverines, Bandits - you can only drop one if you want a postseason. If you have any boosts left, now's the time, guys.

11. Redscape Diplomats (62.2) - Morale is going to be a problem. Though they have the roster to go 6-10 this season, I would not be surprised if the vicious scheduling gods turn it into a 3-13 tragedy.

12. Uluru Rockies (53.9) - I'm still waiting for my rabbit. Do they have rabbits in China?

13. Cimmerian Barbarians (51.7) - The roster moves haven't paid off yet, and the Thunderbirds are not exactly the best opponent to get back on track with. Could be worse, though, at least it's not FPQA-Melbourne.

14. Tasmania Sand Gnats (50.9) & 15. Mauna Kea Chenabogs (49.8) - It's a battle-for-the-bottom when Mauna Kea visits this week. Will the Sand Gnats shatter their 0-fer record? Will Mauna Kea double their win total? Will we see the conference's first tie? Tune in tomorrow for the answers to these exciting questions and more!

16. FPQA Ronnie Rockers (30.3) - I'm not sure what's more exciting, a #1 vs #16 or a #14 vs #15.

Yeah, very little recruiting changes this week, only 4 starter slots in the whole conference changed by 4 levels or more, so I had to say something about it.

Don't seem to be much out there worth recruiting, don't see the point in signing non boosters and no custum equiptment at this point.

Damn Sarg... did you have to go there?

What's the possibility of getting one of these done for the Alpha Conf?

Well, it takes me about 2-2.5 hours to do the Zeta Conference rankings, but most of that is looking over the results for interesting info to post in the rankings. Maybe with just raw scores, Alpha wouldn't be too hard to do.

Thanks Sarg! Had to put the gameplanning to the test. Racked our minds with this one. My stomach as turning right before this game. Great game though and I am sure not the last between us and Fuego.

Thanks Sarg! - you may remember some of us as the VEGAS Goodfellas from BBB#3, hence the game planning

Great game to everyone!

Oh good, in that case we don't need to gameplan or anything.
