there is only one UT, that's University of Texas, Tennessee is just Tennessee..

obviously you don't live in SEC country and I don't live in Big XII coutnry. But I am pretty sure though that I have never heard Texas referred to as UT on NFL Network/ESPN/Fox/CBS or any other tv/radio broadcast. Obviously UT is short for Univ. of Texas, but I can't remember any tv or radio guys referring to them as UT. That's weird. But I can also say that USC is referred to Southern Cal and Not Univ. of South Carolina here in SEC country. Also weird.

I've heard of Texas as UT. I kind of agree that Tennessee is just Tennessee. Also, I've actually heard a lot of people call South Carolina USC, and just for clarification, they may refer to it as USCe vs. USCw.

Anyway, Kiffin may have put together a nice staff, but I still think he's a clown. I was really worried after they fired Fulmer. There are some great coaches out there like Brian Kelly at Cincinnati or Patterson at TCU. I was relieved that they hire a washed up NFL coach who couldn't last 2 years. He may have been a great recruiter at USCw, but that place recruits itself. Even I would look like a stud recruiter there. Tennessee, however, doesn't have the same built in recruiting base USC does (not a lot of 5 star athletes in Tennessee).

kiffin wasn't really given a real shot imo it's like being given the browns and then after a season being fired for not making the playoffs or finishing under 500. and besides college and nfl are 2 kinds of beasts all together, just look at spurrier.

Tenn has a great staff in place. I am little worried, they should be really good in two-three years if Lane doesn't screw it up! I thought they should have gone after UNC's Butch Davis. I don't know if you have noticed but he has the #2 Recruiting class in the nation according to Scout.com.

Let me repeat that in case it didn't sink in......UNC has the #2 football recruiting class in the NATION! Now, that is one hell of a recruiter.

Agree with Kapone about him in Oakland, wish Dmac could have got out with him. That is one messed up franchise.

Do people really do that on here? Role play? I thought that just referred to the game. I didn't know we were supposed to role play in the forum too. Damn I feel soooooooo stupid! All this time I thought we were just supposed to be harrassing Kapone and making meaningless convo. Ryan, what is your role in here? Are you like an unpopular geek in his Freshman year of High School or something. Here, let me role play you a wedgie or a swirly or something. There, there, you'll fit in one of these days. Somebody remind to role play kicking his ass in the parking lot everyday! Man now this is great isn't it. Role playing!

Well, Zook had a great staff in place and he could recruit with the best of them, but he still couldn't coach. Kiffin got a bad deal in Oakland, but I'm still not that impressed with him. Besides, NFL coaching experience doesn't translate into success on the college level - just look at Mike Sherman at A&M.

Davis is a great recruiter, but he's only an average coach. I lived in Miami during the latter part of his tenure there. He brought in the talent, but it took someone else as coach to get them a championship. Still, I can't take anything away from Davis' ability to recruit. Those 2000-2002 teams at Miami probably had more NFL talent on them than any other college team in modern day football.

I think he better than avg.

GM's played a big role in both i think, look at dungy he was a dc for years with the vikings and when he went to tampa recruited heavily on the defensive side of the ball. now i agree that defense wins games but offense has to get you there, right? so then he goes to indy where they already had the triplets on "o" and couldn't compete because they hed no "d". dungy's recruiting on "d" + what they already had on offense = Dungy (85-27) at Indy, 5 Division Titles, 1 Super Bowl (7-6 playoffs)
