I think we should wait for an admin response because they have enough input to make an informed decision. We can comment when it comes down to their decision, but until then it really does no good.

agreed, 100%

Leave it to the gamer to decide when to retire his guy, get the FP back and start anew with some rook.
As for the people whining about not getting 100% of the FP back: you lack any understanding of consumerism or economics. If you spend $50 and get back $35 (70%) after OVER A YEAR OF ENTERTAINMENT PROVIDED BY THIS SITE, you've gotten a crazy bargain. I wouldn't have the slightest problem with a far lower return rate.

There should be a decline for aging
but I dont think it should be drastic or quick
Theres lots of old guys in real life that are still just as good
as the day they started

I'm not sure why people who have paid for Flex Points (I'm one of them) should expect their investment to last forever. Name any other game that you have purchased that has a 100% return policy or lifetime (and I mean your lifetime not the games) free upgrades.
Did/Would you buy Madden 2007 expecting that you would get Madden 2008 free when it came out?
What about the free/bonus Flex points you will earn over your "career", do you want 100% of those returned as well? It is entirely possible that the bonus flex points you earn will cover the 30% decrease when your player retires.
Anybody that has purchased any game has known from the beginning that there would be a diminishing return on their investment. Either because of repetitive game play or just the advancement in technology making newer versions "better".
If you ever bought a game thinking that it would hold its value or increase in value, you obviously don't understand the world of game development.
Bottom line is, Bort (and the rest of the developers) have costs associated with this game and they obviously need a way of recovering those costs. Eventually they will run out a "new" users/customers and they will have to get return from the "existing" ones.
BTW, I like the idea of a gradual degradation of skills after a certain point and letting the user choose when to retire the player. Not at all liking the forced to retire at a certain level idea. Not every real life player retires at the same age.

Jeff Garcia is 38 and still as good as he was when he was back on the 49ers. If there's a decrease in stats it should be like speed or strength.

Retirement shouldn't be forced, but if there's a built in decline in skills (and maybe even players begin levelling down after time), then the market will decide. Maybe after 10 or so seasons, the rate at which those things start to happen varies depending on postition, cumulative playing time, morale, training intensity and playing intensity.
If a player with 16 or 18 seasons experience can't get a contract, you'll want to retire him and start with a new player.

There are "other" games out there where you spend $'s just to have an extra player each season. Your season ends, you do not get anything for it, you pay if you want to go another season.

Actually, I see no big deal about losing 30% of your flex points...as stated before you get free ones at the end of the season...you turn around and build multiple players to play the game...and next thing is you invest money into groceries, an automobile and numerous things in life and don't get back even 70% return on it...don't spend the money if you are worried about it...it is not like these guys are twisting your arms to do it.

How about if there is forced retirement for a playing career, but that character can still be active in other ways. Maybe they can become coaches, announcers or endorse products. They could earn flex points to be used on younger players (sort of like a mentorship).

I think its silly to expect much if anything back. You got what you paid for already. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
I'm just a noob, but I have a suggestion. Starting with the 1st season you get 100% back. The longer you go before retiring the less you get back. When you get to forced retirement you only get a small amount back, just enough to kick start a new player.
Every mmo game has a money sink. ESPECIALLY free games with optional pay. Its how they make money so that the free guys can play.

first remember it is in beta...which means that things could change at any time...i understand both sides and both sides have points...
big issue is how can a newbie reach high status if players continue without a retirement?...
i feel if the site wants to not have people retire than they need to put all leagues at equal status...number them one to fifty with fifty being the newest league...then after each season move the winner up a number and the lowest down a number to keep the leagues as competive as possible...if leagues are treated as equal with the understanding that teams created early have better players simply because of when they were created i dont see a problem with everyone being in a league with teams that were created around the same time as you...the moving up and down is only to keep the leagues competive...with teams knowing this i dont think anyone would think that winning a league against teams with the around the same starting date would be a hollow victory...i know someone will say by putting a number beside them is not keeping them equal...i'm really just talking about referring to them as equal status...(pro,aaa,aa would go and they would all be referred to as pro teams)...this is just if the site decides they dont want retirement...
the other way is retirement and i feel 70% is a nice return on a player if not to much...possibly grandfather players that were created in beta and allow them say the 20 seasons to retirement to start when the site goes out of beta...i believe with knowing the site is in beta and also knowing that players do eventually retire should of told anyone that invested that something along these lines could possibly happen...voice your opinion and then let it go and enjoy the site if this is indeed the way the site goes...
i have no preference either way but hope the site does come to a decision soon about this as it would be the best for the paying players...but also paying players must remember that it is in beta and decisions and bugs will be worked out as the game moves along and we will not always agree with the decision...
(i just love to give my 2cents worth)...

Guys....we retire after a certain number of SEASONS!! Not a "skill cap" or anything. IF you want to be the best you have to boost with FP. You dont retire earlier for boosting. Please try to remember that.
