Same reason why any human would, ball is in the air and its heading right towards him. Most NFL cbs would make the read and break off their wr towards the ball. It would be like saying why would a cb break off his wr on a handoff, because the ball isn't going to him. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FEUUuQ43QbM watch the two passing plays at 1:27 on, both plays the Cbs break off their wr and go for the ball. It's basic football knowledge.

Well, that's a really, really bad example.

If I could even see what was happening through the shaky all over the place camera I would comment.

I mean, if you're arguing that it's better for them to break off, duh?

If you're arguing that they should always break off because "football logic", then no.

It's also sad that it's easier to find idiots posting their Madden replays than it is actual football replays.

Since I can't actually find a single NFL replay that actually shows coverage rather than just zooming into the QBs glutes, I'm going to link a Madden play because what the hell.

CB2 (the CB to the far right of the screen) doesn't instantly break off of his man coverage either. He actually doesn't break off until the ball is caught.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sgJRY2TfaPM 3:17 outside cb breaks coverage the moment the ball is thrown
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=V_lZzUOdQxw 6:20 23 stops coverage of 81 after ball is thrown and tracks ball.

It was actually a pain to find decent highlights were a qb didn't rifle it in. I'm arguing he should break off because that's how most players are taught to cover. You cover your man till that ball is thrown, when its thrown you track it down and make a play on the ball if you are able to.

And when you don't know the ball is thrown?

I mean, I get the feeling that you think I'm saying that they see the ball coming but instead decide to follow their WR.

And of course it doesn't work that way because that would be stupid as all hell.

Every time you make Corndog reply on coverage or CBs is another post wasted not solving Middle Overload. Create your own topic, dammit.

It's been solved. Move the lbs in. Simple. Next.

Ya that replay is kind of an anomaly. The cb gets hung up and probably never gets the chance to make the read in the first place.

CD told me a few weeks ago this is not possible due to non existing waypoints. Thats why I suggested to siwtch the blitzes from the OLBs to the ILBs

No he said that they couldn't blitz inside due to that. Nothing was said about not being able to move the lbs further in.

Yup, if the LBs lined up on the backside of the DEs, they'd blitz according to the DEs behavior more often than not. Inside behind evasive DEs, and probably a 50/50 inside/outside split behind power DEs. I bet they'd get hung up and delayed a few ticks or more behind power DEs.
