The Texas beer scene is really coming along fast, but it's still behind a lot of places because of our stupid beer laws.

I did go by one of the local breweries last night and have some amazing stuff though. All of it small batch and only available there.

EDIT: And, yeah. You'll need to be mailing me some of that Heady Topper.

Yea, new england is brimming with small and large breweries. Pretty Things is probably my favorite company atm. They don't have their own brewery yet but work out a deal nicely with one to go in and do their stuff overnight. All creative takes on traditional beers and all delicious. I think only in mass and new york atm though. Hopefully, they'll get to expand because i think they could really take off, especially if they get into the 6pack game with their own brewery

The nice thing about Texas is they are changing quickly and being between coasts means they gets stuff that either coast has trouble with. HJ is starting to get some Russian River stuff down there that I can't get anywhere near DC. Moe and more breweries are opening up distribution down there (so that I won't have to share my Founders stuff with HJ soon).

Founders starts distributing here in April. And where the hell is HJ finding Russian River in Texas?

He got some Pliny previously just to make me jealous. Sucks, since Pliny is brewed just north of where I grew up.

I can get Pliny everynight (or day). Watering hole about 10 minutes from house.

really didn't expect a beer connoisseur convo to break out here, but since this thread is officially derailed I guess I'll start talking beer also...this is what I just brought up from the cellar to enjoy for St. Pattys day..

my favorite once-a-year-availability beer: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/45/40149

another advantage to new england life, the states are so small! I live in the exact sw corner of new hampshire, so I have easy access to things that seem to get shipped more frequently to vt and ma than nh itself...I'm a vip at the beer snob store across the river in vt so I get to reserve 2 bottles of black ops every year, when the store owner only gets a case each year if he's lucky...

second one I plan to enjoy is new to me..I've had a few of their other beers and wasn't very impressed, it was good, but like most magic hat beers it just seemed run of the mill, not exceptional....However, I bought 2 bottles of this stuff last time I went in, and I've got to say I really enjoyed it...I went back a couple days ago and bought another 5 bottles, 3 of which I'm going to cellar for varied lengths of time to see how much of a difference it makes..

I don't plan on getting absolutely hammered tomorrow (though it's entirely possible with this lineup!) but everything I picked out tastes so good you just don't want to put the bottle down! Anyways moving on, I picked this up a couple weeks ago, and frankly I'm excited to try this...Stone is probably my favorite brewery right now, and has been for a couple years now...I've had the regular old guardian before, so now I'm excited to see the difference!

and last but not least, the beer I've been saving since christmas 2011, should be ready to go by now!!

http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/216/673

I probably buy 20-30 bottles of this a year, which is saying something with how much I like to spread the love around and try new things...I don't know what it is about the flemish reds, but that sour taste has me hooked!!

either way , happy st. patricks day to the lot of you, and somebody start a PF strictly for posting about beer imo (or if there is one send me a damned invite)...

and yeah, go SCM!

If I moved back to my hometown like my wife would like to, we'd be smack dab between Russian River and Lagunitas. Granted, I can get all the Lagunitas here, but not as fresh.

Black Ops was pretty good. I know about the beer snob VIPness; when my local place got their seven cases of Hopslam, I showed up immediately after work and asked "How much do you have left and how many do I get?" They let me waltz out with a case and I could have taken more but didn't want to be too greedy. They set aside lots of bottles for me (I'd still have some Bolt Cutter if my wife hadn't learned she liked it so much).

As for beers being enjoyed this weekend, I just had some Evil Twin Aún Más a Jesús last night and a whole lot of Founders Curmudgeon.

That's a pretty nice line up there. Black OPs is one of those holy grails that I probably won't get to try for a long time.

Blaecorn is really good (as is Clown Shoe's Vampire Slayer). They also have a barrel aged version of blaecorn called porcine unidragon that is pretty fantastic and surprisingly still available at my local liquor store.

I was able to pick up a few of the Oak Smoked OG a few weeks back and I like it a lot. The smokiness is a little overwhelming, but really creates a different beer. I'd really go well with some smoked gouda.
