Wrestling died in 2001 when WCW went under. I just started watching again a couple of months ago. This shit put on by WWE and TNA is a far cry from the epicness of the 90s.

Which is a far cry from the epicness of the 70's and before. I grew up in the Charlotte area. I went to matches. I saw Rick Flair when he was in his prime. My brother dated a chick who lived in the same trailer park as Wahoo McDaniel or some crazy George Guy. I can't remember.. It was real.

When WCW came along the soap opera was unbearable.

Actually WCW from the early to mid 90s was pretty much like the old NWA but with better athletes.

Mid-South was based out of Louisiana and was a regular in Arkansas, Oklahoma, parts of Texas, and the Memphis area. Grew up watching JYD, Hacksaw Duggan, Ted Dibiase, Mr. Wrestling II, Terry Taylor, Road Warriors, ect... in Mid-South. Later on Sting, Rick Steiner, the Freebirds, Krusher Darsow, and a host of other top talents joined them. Back during the regional promotions Mid-South was the shit. There's were a lot of the top talent of the 90s came from. They came to Little Rock damn near every week.

The younger guys can't imagine having the Rock, Steve Austin, HHH, and the like coming to your area every week. Those were the days.

No

Winning rookie means little beyond rookie.

I sort of remember some of those names from the Mid-South. I think when we got cable, I started seeing some of those guys.
Yes, there was a time b4 cable.

Understood. In the grand scheme of things, the Rookie title is a Grand Illusion:

NWA used to have a promotion based out of Kansas City/St Louis as well. A lot of those guys you mentioned traveled between the promotions. They came through town every few months or so. We got Flair, the Freebirds, Ted Dibiase, Harley Race, and Bruiser Brody on a regular basis. The best moment of all was the the promoter brought in Andre the Giant to "clean up" the territory. Got to meet him, at about age 11, but on the same night I grabbed the top turnbuckle and felt the padding, which ruined wrestling for me for some time.

Yeah, getting rid of the territories elevated Pro Rasslin into the national spotlight but eventually aided in it's demise. That's a big part of the reason the WWE and TNA are pretty much garbage now. Their talent comes from farm promotions, ROH, Ireland, or reality shows. None of those compare to the old Pacific Northwest, Mid-South, Georgia Wrestling, Florida Wrestling, ect... promotions. There may be farm promotions out there still using those names but they're not in the same league.

Back in the day most (if not all) wrestlers were already polished before they stepped into the AWA, NWA, or WWF. Now we have to watch on the job training and it sucks.

Whatever happened to the sleeper hold? Guy locks it in. The ref lifts the victim's arm once it flops down. He lifts arm a second time and the arm flops down. The ref lifts his arm a third time and just before it hits the canvas he catches it and begins the comeback.
