To be fair, Blaze was in contention both those years, but it really was only those 2 teams. Definitely a lot more teams capable of winning in S11 and today though.

Would it have mattered if equipment upgrades didn't become free?
yes? teams were still getting 72s on their top players, and boosting makes your players better regardless of what equip they're wearing.
Would've been harder without teams using the now (and then too) illegal cash farm teams and exploits but yea.
It's hard to say though. Valhalla was more dominant compared to the other teams at the time but does being the first adopters of stacked %aeq almost across the board in an era where most teams had very few %aeq make them better than HHWC winning twice in 2seasons that were complete meat grinders during the reg season and also the sim nowadays i much more volatile with lots of insta-sacks, and crazy INTs and ST fumbles everywhere?
Valhalla was unquestionably more dominant but is kinda like when people discuss NBA all time great centers from 50s, 60s, early 70s when there were far less big men and even fewer good big men. It was essentially a 2team race for those seasons while this season i felt there were about 8 teams with a shot at the title come playoff time

To be more fair blaze were __________* equipment, and valhalla still won, so...
*edited to avoid ban.

Can this be solved on the test server by Catch? That would be neato.

Not really. Valhalla with full aeq stacks rapes you guys, and with the nerfed stacks the younger dots are obv better.

you mean other teams weren't using double stacked AE back when vahalla was playing?

Not as many as you'd think, there was a reason the talent gap was so huge. Had everything to do with the VA's/AEQ people were rolling with back then, also the number of well built dots were MUCH fewer in numbers.

Yea, wasn't just %aeq but was combining %aeq (many double stacked) and on most all positions rather than just a couple. Not to mention having the VAs, SAs and atts working with them for the most part. Plus, doing a good job with getting the +2/+3att aeq to boost it even more. Nowadays most every team does that even regular playoff pro teams and the builds are better, the gameplanning more difficult, the parity far far greater and the sim itself is extremely volatile and INTs are very common place for heavy passing teams. If you replay those blaze/valhalla games with the current sim there'd be 10 INTs each prob
Still both are great teams and again, i think it's like comparing NBA centers from back in the day to he ones now. Really tough to do and there are too many variables to say 1 is better than the other considering it depends on how you frame the argument

I don't know if the sim is that much different in terms of INTs now as compared to then except for the %EQ stack nerf. Although I do think a lot more defenders are using aggressive coverage, and a lot more defenders have the builds for it.

Eh, I think most WL defensive linemen had two if not three pieces of fully upgraded break block, most OL had one if not two pieces of hold block, and many DBs had one if not two pieces of deflect ball. Alloy gets full credit for discovering the majesty of catch ball AEQ (which I assumed was garbage because I figured it just helped avoid drops), and then I think we credit Gunny's for exposing intercept AEQ.
The weird thing to me about intercept AEQ is how little catching you need to intercept passes. If ~20 catching only gave you like a 20% chance of catching the ball, then intercept AEQ wouldn't have such an impact.
