Watch this video for how to prepare the lime... One thing I was taught (by Brazilians) is before cutting the lime in half like they do in this video, cut a bit off of the peel on the outside. I usually just stand the lime up after cutting off the ends, and cut 4 strips off of the peel about as deep as what the guy took off the ends. The white part of the lime in between the peel and the fruit is what makes the lime bitter. So by trimming some of that off it makes the drink less bitter. That's also why he cuts the core out after he cuts the lime in half... 2 tablespoons of sugar after cutting the lime into pieces, muddle the hell out of it, and pour 2-3 shots in... shake. If it tastes a touch too strong, add a splash of sprite/7-up...

You can do the same thing with different fruits and vodka... My gf loves it when I chop up strawberries, muddle with sugar, add ice, and shake with vodka...

tbh, it's how I gained access to fly in restricted air space... a drink in a rocks glass that tastes good enough to drink fast, but has anywhere from 3-5 oz's of liquor in it? "it'll only hurt the first time"...

Alcohol doesn't spike blood sugar, at least, it doesn't spike mine (and I monitor mine closely). Alcohol actually inhibits the liver's production of sugar in times of low blood sugar, taking away one of your safety nets for avoiding a low glucose episode.

And blood sugar spikes blood sugar like a mutha. I'm still trying to figure out what spikes to do blood sugar, but I can't chew those things. Bad teeth.
