Watch this video for how to prepare the lime... One thing I was taught (by Brazilians) is before cutting the lime in half like they do in this video, cut a bit off of the peel on the outside. You can do the same thing with different fruits and vodka... My gf loves it when I chop up strawberries, muddle with sugar, add ice, and shake with vodka...

Alcohol doesn't spike blood sugar, at least, it doesn't spike mine (and I monitor mine closely). Alcohol actually inhibits the liver's production of sugar in times of low blood sugar, taking away one of your safety nets for avoiding a low glucose episode.
