The rankings that have most street cred are the coaches poll rankings.

and honestly in the end, they are all for fun anyway. The cream always rises to the top at the end of season.

also...

Any list that doesnt have Mean Machine #1 preseason loses all credibility. Like I always feel, you have to beat the Champ to become the champ.

I agree and disagree with the bold. I have not paid much attention to off season player movements but if MM was inactive in bringing in new players and a team like WSI brought in loads of higher talent I could understand forecasting them to be #1 as this is a new season (now to not have MM in the top 2-3 would be insane).

Ahem.

MM is #1 in my book until they lose. I think that there's a much better chance that they lose a game, maybe even more than one, this season vs. s5, but until they do they're the unquestionable #1 in my eyes.

Those rankings are very interesting. That's probably what the majority would agree with right now right? I'm surprised BDC is considered a non-playoff team. They did just win a championship you know. Oh well.

I don't think the majority would agree...honestly, Zeta conference is just too tough to call. There isn't a cupcake on the schedule and good teams that are used to making the playoffs will miss this season -- just the way it will be. I think Alpha is a bit easier to call because of the guts at the bottom, but there are still enough good teams there to shake up the bottom half of the playoffs.

As for BDC - sure, they just won a championship. Great team there, and I have a lot of respect for them. But the teams I've placed above them aren't slouches.

Nites - 3 straight PRO championship appearances, 2 PRO championships
IC - No championships, but they did just bring in a boatload of talent from the disbanded Rawle Tech Titans, a team that never missed the PRO playoffs
Heat - Regular season Zeta champions for two straight seasons, AAA#2 champion in season 3
Kava Sharks - Marched up to PRO in straight seasons, always a top playoff team, still in search of a gold trophy
Gods - Season 1 PRO champs, always in the playoff mix, beat the Nites last season in the regular season
Gangsters - 16-0 in regular season AAA#1 last season, upset in the playoffs. On paper, they boast one of the strongest rosters and if the gameplanning improves look out.
Thorny Devils - Followed the Kava Sharks tradition, promoting in straight seasons. Made the PRO conference final in their first PRO season
Convicts - AAA#2 championship finalists, very strong club and dedicated owner
Stingers - Straight promotion to the PRO's just like Melbourne, playoff team in first PRO season

Alpha was better last season, in my opinion. Maybe I'm just bitter that we lost some good teams.

I have BDC significantly higher, but other than that it is pretty close to what I have. Drop down or bump up a team a spot or two here and there and it is identical.

At the top they are, but Zeta has bottom feeder teams that would make the playoffs in other leagues.

MM is #1 in my book until they lose. I think that there's a much better chance that they lose a game, maybe even more than one, this season vs. s5, but until they do they're the unquestionable #1 in my eyes.

Its hard to disagree with that... but 2 of the last 3 championships in the OPL have been won by a team that was promoted from AAA. Thats why I say it would be insane not to have them 2-3 at worst (they deserve to be at or near the top... certainly not behind any team that was in the OPL last year though... but leave open the possibility of one of the newer/unknown faces to emerge as top dog as we have seen 2 out of the last 3 years).

Lastly, the problem with the "#1 until they lose" mentality is that there might be a team that goes on a tear and absolutely destroys everyone in there path (much like MM did last season) yet by the above philosophy will not be able to pass said #1 team, regardless if that team is struggling to win. Its like keeping Penn State near the top of the Polls (pre-loss of course) only because they are undefeated and have a decent, respectable team with a strong history and ignoring the fact that there are teams with one loss that are much better playing tougher schedules.

That said... personally, I would rank Mean Machine #1 (they have more than earned it) but would not see it as an insult if someone went out on a limb before the season any meaningful games are played and predicted someone else (as long as its within the realm of reason).

wow, BDC discussion dominating the thread.

Obviously I think we have a pretty good team, but Scace's rankings are certainly not out of the realm of possiblity. I think we are a playoff team but all of the teams he has ranked above us (and a few he has ranked below us) feel the same way about their teams as well I'm sure.
