I've seen Chase Down activate in the distant past. I'm fairly certain it barely ever had any bearing on a play though
Forum > Goal Line Blitz 2 > Any all-zone defenses out there?
I'm trying to play a zone/man mix (1st attempt) and there seems to be some general agreement that zone is good against the run from Rookie thru Seasoned. To that end it's about matching formations to builds in the LB group, with available plays, right. I mean not everyone in a zone defense is always playing a zone, right? Sometimes, a Zone D has personnel on man/blitzing assignments, just as sometimes a Man D has personnel in a zone assignment. I think all of this can be exploited in interesting ways, and I'm listening very closely to GE, right now.

You can run a zone based run defense all the way to veteran without spending a single skill point on zone awareness.

Exactly, this is what I'm wondering? The stuff I've read about Run Reaction times would seem to point to exactly this and quickness, jumping , intercepting and tackling skills, or whatever subset of variants makes creating a hybrid group in order to 'spread the cost' an interesting little experiment I'm grappling with. I need to find something to put a crimp in the meta-game, so I'm poking here. Still listening, GE

I have read it. I've also watch Ground Assault mostly contain other rushing offenses using zone plays without having spent a single point into zone awareness on any players.
the zones get the players in the right places. Sometimes they make the tackles, sometimes they don't. Their awareness has never been the issue.

This. Zone defense against the run is generally about placement and blitzing.

Good example of footwork and quickness more useful than speed on a zone defender:
