Single elimination halves the people it is relevant to every game. Round robin is essentially league games and tiers are so big that it wouldn't be possible. Splitting up tiers for round robin just turns it into a lame version of league and ladder games.

User created tournaments would kind of alleviate some necessity of the games being meaningful...but that comes with its own slew of issues. Filling a team for the average user is one of the worst parts of the game...everyone being able to make their own tournaments and try to fill it would likewise end up with a bunch of half full tournaments. Combined with the fact that people can already make their own tournaments but every attempt so far has lost interest before it finished...doesn't make it sound like too promising of a feature.

Something to do on the off days makes sense. I just don't think tournaments are the solution. Even free scrims would probably be more relevant to more people as they could actually test things rather than being eliminated first round and still having an empty day or beating up on a lower seeded team.

I think the biggest reason people lose interest in running the tournaments is getting teams scheduled. If there was an option that once a team Opt'd into a tournament that you let the tournament organizer set their schedule for them that would help.

Nice idea. Perhaps add a Tournament Co-Ordinator slot to the Coaching Staff. Then each team could invite the Co-Ordinator (who's only power would be to schedule scrims) and they could create a schedule.

A Free Scrim on Off-Days would really help Player-Run Tournaments.

You could do a 16 team Tournament on Off-day 1, then the remaining 8 would play on Off-day 2, then the remaining 4 would play on Off-Day 3 with the final 2 teams on Off-day 4.

Teams that lose would still get their free scrim on the Off-days they aren't in the Tournament so they could play whoever else.

This. Jampy tried to run a TOC in season 2 and got banned halfway through. I tried in season 3 and struggled to keep people active. If the tournament coordinator could set dates for each game it could be more viable.

I do agree, though. I don't think the ROI on tournaments is very high.

I think for the hardcore user, it is pretty high however I think you and Corndog are right, to the average user it isn't as high as some other stuff.

To address your concerns, CDog.

1. Tournament games would have ZERO impact on player progression. Don't give levels for tournament games.

2. I like Xars suggestion of a free "scrim" on off days. That free scrim would either be a tournament game (if your team is still alive in the tournament) or a free scrim if you lost in the tournament.

3. The tournament can be a double elimination format or a single elimination format (you can decide this). For the first few weeks, everybody gets the free scrim on the off day. Then, after a few games (ladder and league) have been played, every team has a seeding...take the tier rank. Start the tournament on the week were the finals would be played on the final "off day" of the season.

Ya'll say that nobody will be interested in the tournament but I am guessing if the tournament is set up where each team is automatically placed into the tournament and the scheduling is done for them, more teams would care about the tournament. Plus this will give a us a true champion of the tier because the tournament would be inner tier only.

They never were going to have any impact on player progression. That was just something you brought up.

Then why is it so hard to implement tournaments? That would be the biggest hurdle.

I no longer want tournaments.

Now that the ladder is meaningful...and interesting....I'm happy with where things are.

My vote has been rescinded.

I don't think he got banned, he even posted a couple times a month or so ago.
