A great defense or a great offense. Portland held us to 24. DD2 and Stark held us in the 30's. Air Raid gave up 70+ but just scored more. Stunners gave up 44, but scored A LOT more. My team has had a pretty damn good first season at vet, but we won't be a top 3 team until we shore up our defense.

Hey Rob, you want to know something that'll annoy you?

We played a CPU roster today. Punted 6 times. Lost 2 fumbles. Looked about as crappy as you can winning 140-0.

Dat passing RNG is a fickle master

Dang, 6 punts?? Wow...

We got an inactive today, not a full out CPU. But it should be a delicious amount of yards and TD's. I may or may not throw a lot of screens. If we punt 6 times I will be sad.

I threw Flood Left into my medium package to get a good long look at it in more situations. Turns out, that WR2 route isn't as cool when the defense is so bad your underneath routes get open so quickly that the QB can't help himself and won't wait for it.

So after getting "less than a first down" we proceeded to get a drop, or a sailed pass, or an actual defensed pass, or another "not a first down" type throw. It was a good way to intentionally kill more than a handful of drives.

It's also a good "why you don't throw passes designed to get less than a first down" lesson for anyone that bothers to watch a CPU blowout. If you care to self-limit your own passing attack, by all means, pick plays that have 3-4 routes short of the first down marker that aren't in the "Screen" category. Unless you run the ball. More of the playbook is viable in that case. 2nd and 6 or 7 probably does increase your conversion chances relative to an all-passing attack.

You had to know that Flood Left was going to result in a ton of throws to WR3. People have to be good at covering that route for the QB to pass him on the check.

I tried some flood left and flood right against DD2 just to mix it up and try new things. Hated both plays.

I really hate Flood Left though. Every time the WR dives backwards I just . Similar with a lot of other plays in the book. Without any sort of lead passing you can't rely on any play that can possibly be thrown under 3 yards that isn't a screen. There are some decent 5-7 yard plays though.

Which sucks, because like Galithor said, if you don't pick up a first down it's basically a waste. You force yourself to complete 2 out of 3 passes.

Ya for an all passing team it certainly isn't the most ideal of situations. Until guys can stay upright and there are far less diving/fall down catches half the playbook is quite terrible. There has to be a balance somewhere for a methodical passing drive and not just sling it deep over and over and over.

Making matters even worse is that the short routes now seem to be the biggest fumble forcing routes as well.
