Yea, the randomness can suck but hopefully it evens out for you as the season goes.

Playing up a tier vs passing teams is the worst. SoA drops another one 17-16

ECN and SoA both drop ladder games so far...

SoA in a heartbreaker as the winning fg was kicked with :01 seconds left in the game

Also brings us back to the terrible end of game logic. SoA had all 3 timeouts with around 35-40 seconds to go on 4th down for New England. Ended up not using a timeout and let the clock run down to 1 second.

I swear I'm not upset!

There's nothing to fix as far as seasoned vs journeyman. At some point you need to start playing out of your tier. Where I have a problem is that there's no limit on how high a tier you can play against. Anything passed journeyman teams for seasoned teams is unfair.

It's the ladder, if a Pro Team is ranked 60th and you are ranked 70th it's a fair match-up. If you can't beat them, you have no business being ranked higher. If we take out out of tier match-ups we might as well go ahead and only use tier ladders.

I understand where you're coming from from a ladder perspective but doesn't necessarily seem right that a seasoned team would need to play a pro or vet team even if they somehow pull out a win. I'd rather see a +1/-1 tier play for journeyman/pro teams than everything just being open game. You can find enough closely ranked opponents within those tiers to play a full season and not have to worry about humongous SP discrepancies.
