Not sure how that is relevant, though?

But yeah, they were definitely asking for it.

1) I own a million dollar Picasso.

2a) I store it in my leaky basement.
2b) I store it on my wall with no protection.
2c) I store it behind secured glass.

3a) It gets wet and is ruined.
3b) It gets stolen or vandalized.
3c) It gets stolen.

4a) You laugh it me because I was careless and exposed myself to a huge risk.
4b) You don't sympathize with me because I was careless with something that valuable.
4c) You feel bad for me because I knew I had something valuable and tried to mitigate the possible loss.

You get how there are differences? You get how someone can mitigate their own risk?

Jennifer Lawrence's naked body is a million dollar Picasso because she could have negotiated that much as a bonus for agreeing to appear naked on screen or in a magazine. This isn't victim blaming or slut shaming or any of the buzz words people are using to describe it. It is a recognition that she and others exposed themselves to a risk. I feel more sorry for them than I would if they were walking around rodeo drive naked and less sorry for them than I would if they were snapped naked without their consent or knowledge.

I'm a smart guy, I can empathize on a sliding scale.

Taking pictures with your phone, definitely the epitome of irresponsible. Definitely deserving of global shaming and/or having their careers ruined.

Not one career will be ruined by this leak btw.

I'm pretty sure Paris Hilton only has a career because of her sex tape.

Again, if you are worried about nudes getting out, you don't take nudes. If you are a celebrity who has a lot more to lose, that doesn't mean that they should be able to be any less cautious than you would expect of any normal person, in fact, you would expect them to be more cautious.

Its like the post office being robbed and all you dumb fuckers are telling me its MY fault for mailing the letter.

Because rain, sleet, or whatever, those nudes you mailed must go through.

Being able to mitigate their own risk doesn't make the wrong doing any less wrong, though.

A mugging doesn't become less of a mugging if the muggee didn't have a big enough gun.

You might want to start up on that instead of insisting that there's a single person in this thread defending the hackers.

This might be worth a try, too.

Slight strawman. It'd be more correct if the muggee was walking about with cash in his hand. Doesn't make it any less wrong to take it, but there's nothing less that could have been done to 'protect it' short of giving it directly to everyone.

I think scanning her tits on a fax and sending that might have actually been safer

BINGO!

HOLY Shit! Thanks for giving straw man a brain, wizard!

The mugger is wrong regardless of the victims level of preparation or circumstances! It is no more right to rob someone when they are brandishing a fist-full of 100 dollar bills or if they keep their wallet tucked safely away from sight.

But you better believe that you feel more sorry for the person who mitigated their risks.

At no point have I said that raping someone was alright just because the girl was running around drunk and naked, so let's head off that strawman too. The act of stealing these pictures and displaying them is just as wrong if these celebrities texted them to the leaker as it is if they didn't.

The level of empathy for the victim can slide with the level of assumed risk without assigning any more or less blameworthiness to the perpetrator.

You're mistaking not condoning the action with feeling sorry for the victims.

I don't really care about the two names I recognize or the handful of others that I don't. I just don't think it's worth celebrating and making threads in forums announcing it. A crime that's becoming more and more common was committed, but it's cool because boobs.
