Alternatively, have a "co-sign", so that the owner isn't completely left to fend for themselves.

But then, there's two camps ITT. One thinks everyone should be handed as many teams as they want at any time, but the other thinks every team should have a reasonable chance at being competitive...and the two thoughts are kind of contradicting.

You are describing a challenging problem william.

People have (and could do more) written guides for new owners in the guides section of the FAQ forum....how often are they read? How often are they found? Even with tooltips / guides / even demonstration videos - some will watch and learn...some won't.

You could do a lot of what you say above yourself - start a mentoring private forum -- post in the FAQ forum what you're trying to do in the hopes that new guys see it -- assemble a team of people to help you answer questions if there are any. Go post a link and explanation of your private forum in each of the 8 new rookie leagues (would take less than 2 minutes to post).

Write several guides for your private forum -- base defense // salary // chemistry // tactics // etc. I'm sure you could find volunteers to help you -- or just rip them off from the guide section of the FAQ.

On your team -- find people who are willing to be mentors...and match them up with people who come to your forum seeking help.

I'm afraid the issue is that new people don't SEEK help...not necessarily that people aren't willing to help. Since season one I've probably had 2 people PM me genuine questions....I answered...one thing that baffles me as one example:

There are definitely plays that are BETTER at stopping the goal line stuff. Those plays are readily available...all someone has to do is go watch some film of a Yorick game -- or a whoever game -- and they'll see right off what play is being run...but many people don't do that...it makes no sense. An ok answer could be found in less than 5 minutes - but they won't spend the time -- I have a hard time that many will take the time to find an in game mentor

Or just limit goal line plays to goal line situations. Then the other outside rushing plays wouldn't be wrecked.

Even thought it is ripe for exploitation, an "adopt a team" type thing, where older users could sign up to help a new team, and get half of the flex cost of the team. Could help encourage teaching new users, and trying to keep the team from folding.

I'd be curious.

If I went to every rookie league forum (all 8) and posted:

"Any rookie teams looking for help with their team? I've owned a team here since season 1 and would love to answer any questions or give you any tips. send me a PM to discuss"

How many responses would I get? (I'm not sure I'd even get one but I'm wrong a lot)

You'd get at least one

That seems pretty exploitable.

Though I guess worst case scenario you get more teams and more players for price of 250 flex to a user per team so probably not a terrible idea in terms of balancing.

As far as your second point did I argue against the need for tools or tips for new users? Absolutely not.

Your viewing this as an argument not a discussion, no need for an idea to help newcomers be adversarial

If they are auto-sorting by length of ownership , they wouldn't have to take the time to open them all. Length of GLB2 signup certainly isn't perfect but it would better approximate skill than simply randomly putting leagues together based on order of signup. Assigning a script to return the length of time on the account and spitting teams out in that league order wouldn't be overly complicated.

But then, is 250 flex really enough for people to put in that much effort? lol

How about to earn that flex the adopter has to have successfully helped put together an actual 36 man human roster and won at least one league and ladder game?

Do you see how maybe that second statement completely invalidates the first?

I don't think it's possible to render Yorick useless. mutley had Denver run scrims on me all morning where I was just using inside runs. They work, too.

On outside runs, especially goalline, I really do want the LB's and safeties to play smarter. Have them make Pursuit rolls that keep them moving down the line rather than into the scrum. Then it becomes a case of skilled builds going up against skilled builds rather than requiring that you know enough about how the defensive AI works to force the sim to keep guys on the outside.

Oh, and I already know I could build a team to stop Yorick. The problem that is in doing so, I'd have a team that couldn't beat Air Raid, Lost Lounge, or DADDY ever.

they'll phone it in a lot...

some will sign up and take the flex and never log in again.

some will answer questions for a few minutes and then get scarce

others will essentially become GM and hold hands the whole way through.

will be a broad spectrum

Maybe 250 flex and a free player tied to the team?

There would need to be limitations though ldo, and can't think of a way that could catch most exploiting...though I've also been staring at my monitor for about 20 hours straight so there's that.
