Related question:

Isn't the inside running game kind of broken even beyond the spread dives?

I watch every game my team plays - every snap (and some other teams). That means I've watched 150+ games since early in season 1. It seems to be pretty much automatic to get 3 yards on inside rush plays.

Even when the play is well defended - 2 yards happens a TON.

The number of times I see a 0 or -1 yard output on inside runs is tiny, tiny, tiny. Rushes just don't get stuffed at the line of scrimmage hardly ever. Could this be because the D Line is pass rush focused - maybe....but I don't think so.

I don't have a good run stuffing DT (at least I don't think so. It seems a run stuffer might have more skills to focus on than a pass rush - but I maybe just haven't thought it through very well).

But in any case - a play like this: http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/18009/275746?player_id=28269

Just seems to hardly ever happen (inside run for a 1 yard loss). What are you guys seeing? Are you look me - does it seem to you any 3rd and 1 / 3rd and inches / 3rd and 2 is pretty much a guarantee on an inside run?

Sidenote: I'm a 49ers fan. I remember playing the cowboys back in the early 2000's. Emmit Smith was freaking AUTOMATIC on 3rd and short. Impossible to stop. I freaking hated it. So I get that a team with a great line and a great HB should be near automatic on 3rd and short - but here - almost everyone is.

I've seen our rookie DTs make stops for 0 or 1 yards 2-3 times per game. We do run a considerable amount of 5-2 though. With low skills to exploit broken blocks for now, you have to kind of get lucky that they break the block right as the HB is at the LOS. They can get the tackle before the blocker re-engages.

my offenses routinely get stopped for 0 yards when I need 1, or 1 when I need 2, or 2 when I need hree, so I think inside run defense in general is working fine.

You are right.

Looking at the inside runs:
5, 0, 1, 4, 3, 1, 1, 5, 0, 2 - mostly controlled by middle overload: 22 yards on 10 carries (2.2) but with 6 rushes at 2 or under

Numbers got better when middle overload wasn't called (5, 4, 3, 4, 4, 4)

Off Tackle runs were controlled by middle overload as well (1, 0, 2, 10, 1, 2, 0, 0)

So yes - you've given me an example of a game where there were a number of stuffs.

My genuine question - would you say this is unusual - or reasonable? (I didn't watch any of the pass plays - so I didn't see if middle overload got destroyed in the passing game or not - but assume it didn't since DD only scored 10 and 7 of that was a KR by my kick returner ::BRAG:

Ok - well - that's why I posted...I know perception can be pretty faulty (especially mine!).

I don't know, outside of DD, the rushing game hasn't seemed unstoppable.

http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/game/21747 another primarily run focused team getting shut down by equal competition.
