I still believe firmly that some posts should be aborted completely. There are plenty of other threads that are looking for love.

I do think that we reach a slippery slope when we test a post in advance to see if it may turn out mentally handicapped. I'm not sure if requiring such testing is a good idea, like Virginia recently attempted.

In the abstract, I agree with you. However, once you know a thread that has great chance of being mentally handicapped, these unwanted threads may be abandoned. Then these unwanted, discarded threads get placed in forums where they get abused, or raised surrounded by random letters.

There is no easy answer, but when you see an unwanted thread raised by a forum which doesn't really care if it grows up to be a quality thread or not, it just breaks your heart.

That's why I think we should spend more time loving the threads we have. Just because you can create threads doesn't mean you should. And since not everyone exercises this level of control and just spews their words anytime they see a thread, post abortion should remain an option. Then when folks find a thread they can truly love, they can bring up posts that are thoughtful, intelligent, and additions to the community.

1) That's not saying much. A can of tomato soup would provide hours of entertainment for FFA.
