Honestly though, its true there are a few testers that have me wondering how they were picked. There are a lot of great minds out there in the game that could be tapped in to for testing and improving the sim. But I feel like that has been ignored for some time now. It appears to me that GLB is more concerned with adding on new features in an attempt to keep everyone "entertained" rather than refine the core of the product that has everyone coming back each season.
I'm of the opinion it has been all the crazy and cooky sim exploits, bugs, and querks that has driven many users off in the past, and yet there are still issues in the sim not addressed. Likewise, new issues with the new additions, plus the aggravation of re-learning how to train a player (for example) will drive even more players away.
I don't disagree much with anything you're saying. Trust me, though, you don't want to be a tester. I just literally chuckled a few mins ago, when looking at the test server. Someone who pretends to have every answer to every issue (in fairness, a lot of them aren't bad answers) and has been begging in his own way to be a tester for a very long time has just been added.
Honestly, I think he'll be a good addition, assuming ego and trying to get the edge he has always claimed that the testers have isn't his real motivation. That said, I'd put the odds of him actually being an active tester for more than 1 ssn at just under 2%. In the past 3 ssns, there have been somewhere over 30 testers cycled through, most of them sincerely "great minds." There are maybe 5 that are actually active, and 2 of them are the head scratchers. It can be extremely frustrating when you want to achieve something good, and most start all fired up, only to learn that and give up.
