The funniest show I ever saw was back in like 95, at this VFW in Stillwater MN, Survivor showed up, and they were all like 40+ with head bands, and after every song they took a cigarette break, it was incredible.

Best shows I ever saw were Red Hot Chili Peppers in 85 or 86 in a tiny club ...they freaking rocked the house.

Robyn Hitchcock and The Jazz Butcher on a double bill (and a double tab iynwim )

Buddy Guy several times...greatest living blues man.

The Cramps in about 86 (ended in a teeenage dream - menage a trois with two punker chicks)

PJ Harvey sometime in the 90s's

Ween sometime that I barely recall (for some reason) except that it was awesome.

All of them except PJ and Ween were in tiny clubs...about 200 folks max.

Lots of other good shows but my youthful habits enhanced those earlier ones for some reason

Yeah saw them too actually. A little too staged.

Years ago, I saw Tool in Greenville, SC and it was one of the most awesome things I've ever experienced. I saw them five days later in Winston-Salem, NC and it was meh. That was when I learned about acoustics.

Best shows for me...

1.) Pixies at Coachella
2.) Radiohead at Coachella (1 hour after the pixies)... Only downside was Thom had lost his voice a week before and the vocals were a bit weak...
3.) Basement Jaxx at Coachella (bunch of e and coke and 20+,000 people going crazy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lDFctw34-I
4.) Against Me! at a small club in Covington, KY
5.) The Decemberists at the Southgate House in Newport, KY... Rated one of the best venues to see a show and playing their Picaresque tour.

6.) The Killers at the Southgate House... Went for the main show which was Stellastarr*, came away knowing that the band that opened for them was about to blow up...
7.) The Strokes at Coachella... Was close enough to the front to see Julian Casablanca dip his head into his trench coat during a long guitar solo, and when he turned back towards the crowd and brushed his hands together, you could see white powder flying off of his hands...
8.) Muse on a side stage playing during Curefest... Criminal to have them on a side stage though when they prob should've been headlining...
9.) Jack Johnson in San Diego 2001.... He was just beginning to gain popularity, and seeing him play at dusk (with special guest Ben Harper) in a city made for his music was pretty surreal...

Looking forward to seeing The XX in Bloomington here in a month...

The best show I ever saw was BSS at the House of Blues in Cleveland when they were touring with DMST. Pretty awesome to hear the BSS set with a full band backing them up.

Funny, one of the best shows I ever saw was Tool during the Lateralus tour in Providence. Maynard's mic cut out at one point and moody Maynard threw it down in frustration and walked off stage, what followed was one of the greatest few minutes of improvisation I had ever heard.

I also saw Tom Waits in the mid 90's at a smaller venue in Providence. I was doing a lot of psychedelics and reading a lot of Burroughs at the time, so the show fit right in and was one of the most surreal couple of hours of my late teens. In other words it was amazing.

Edit: Boot Camp Clik in a small club was the greatest Hip Hop show I have ever seen. I f'n love Boot Camp.
