I can understand this. I had the... opportunity, we'll call it, to sue someone for $10,000 once and didn't do it because I didn't want to deal with them anymore, among other reasons.

Considering his situation he would be losing out on $1,000, because I still don't think she has a case. I also think she's acting emotionally because he broke up with her. The same shit happens in divorces with much higher stakes. The people that don't fight over all the petty shit will move on quicker with their lives and be happier. The ones who chose to be angry and pissy, drag that misery out for years and then still stew after the court stuff is done. That is exactly right, different people, different personalities, different circumstances with different experiences.
In every example that I have experienced (albeit a long, long time ago) and that acquaintances have experienced, you are giving her satisfaction by fighting it, by responding to it, by showing up in court or by continuing to argue about it. It is the first thing I mentioned, it isn't about the money, it is about her being able to continue to impact your life in any sort of way. It isn't always money, some X girlfriends will spread bullshit rumors and make up stories, partly because they are pissed off and partly because they want to drag you down to their level and put you in a position where most people will lash back or feel the need to constantly defend themselves, in which case, that is completely satisfying her.
In this case, if Rams description is accurate, she isn't self supportive. She will burn through that money in less then a month and that is it. Meanwhile, Rams will not only have shut her out right now, but for the rest of his life. If you want to play the vengeance card, I can't think of a more satisfying way then to pay her off and show her that she can't touch your happiness and that you are willing to spend money to avoid her bullshit.

Sorry yall it's been a busy ass few days. So after looking into the permissive use law and making use of a local 'ask a lawyer' thing so I didn't have to pay to talk to one, it looks like I am legally in the right to tell her to go fuck herself and not pay. However she's a psychotic bitch and like a few of you said, it'd be best to just get her the hell out of my life. Given that, I told her to get an estimate, bring it to me, and I'd cut a cashier's check directly to the body shop for up to $1,000 (if it costs that much) because I do actually have a sense of morality and seriously I just want her to go away at this point.
