Don't ask me why but this method is easier for me or is much clearer then your first example.
If I could explain what is going on in my brain, it would make life much easier but I honestly think I combo the old fashioned math of simply memorizing what 16 x 4 is along with at least a portion of the newer version of math to make it easier to organize/remember in my head where you separate parts of the equation and then add.
I still have the flip phone but I have never used the calculator on my phone, tried once but couldn't figure out the features. I will scribble on an envelope on occasion.
I have a strange thing with numbers, will remember phone numbers that I have not dialed in decades or I can look at a cows tag or brand and remember what her actual weaning weight and weight ratio was from 6 years ago but can't remember appointments that I have next week without looking. I also find myself calculating or repeating numbers in my head while I do mundane tasks like operating the loader while mixing feed and I will forget for a moment what that number is, might be lbs. of seed per acre x projected acres or what the break even price is on a bushel of soybeans and it takes me a moment to figure out why I keep repeating 94675 over and over again.

If I make myself do the math in my head using seth's example, I actually do the tens in that 42x10 as the first part, 40x6 as the second part and then add to get the 640 and then finish with 16x2 to get the total. I guess that is what I mean about using the old school memory with the 4x6 and what I am assuming is the new method with how I got there.
Maybe that is what your example did Cat but I get crossed up on what the symbols are or what they mean as I have never taken advanced math classes and am not familiar with any sort of math theory or method.

After all of the database breaches over the past several years, you'd think they would at least implement a 2 step verification process. My account was apparently compromised last week, and the only notification was an email telling me my sign in ID had been changed. Without telling me what it had been changed to, because of course.
The sign-in ID, of course, is the email attached to the account. So now my account has a different ID, different email, and different password. Should be fun trying to recover it through support.

The weird thing is that my PS4 is still "logged in" to the account. I can't do anything, because making any changes requires me to log in, which I can't do because, well, I don't even know what my account is, let alone the password for it, and none of it can be recovered because I don't know what the email is.
I can't even see what the new email is while logged in. Everything defaults to my old email, and then says it is invalid. At least Paypal is awesome and let's you turn off payments, so they shouldn't be able to purchase anything.

Well, managed to recover the account. Was surprisingly easier than I imagined, especially after reading horror stories of dealing with their customer service. Maybe it just pays to not be a dick.
