I hope that this thread serves to warn other new/returning coaches who want a good game of common sense in their football.

Leave it to the experts or don't be ambitious with the playcalling.

And that is the very essence of the problem a casual gamer like me has with the entire thing.

It just means if you call for a play that doesn't exist - you're gonna have a bad time.

If your tactics at all call for short pass, you need to have a short pass play tagged in every formation, same goes for every other tag. If you want to call it, you need at least 1 in every formation.

You could also have a pass/run tag on one play and then it's going to be the one that the book defaults to when you have a gap like that - but it'd also get thrown in as a chance on all plays for that formation.

Really was an amazing run, and I'm sorry you're having so much trouble picking up the defense.

Computers aren't sentient beings, "obedience" isn't a thing. You either input in a language it understands or you get outcomes you don't understand. Garbage in garbage out.

You can't expect it to just figure out what you want it to do. People are trying to help you learn the language of the system. It's not a dog, being mean to it isn't going to change it's behavior.

You keep saying you don't want help, but that's what we're trying to do.

Anyway, it's not the Tactics menu; it's your playbook.

Each formation's defensive playbook needs to have each type of tag play in it that your Tactics menu asks for.

So it's actually you're play calls not lining up with your tactics input.

SIMPLEST SOLUTION:
Always have each type of play call in every formation's play book.

One Pass Short
One Pass Medium
One Pass Long
One Inside Run
One Outside Run

Have those 5 against every formation and you're good.

Plug and Play buddy, like Offense.

Plug and Play.

This is like going back to High School to do logic gates in order to play Madden on XBox.

I loved how you cherry-pick the metaphor.

I keep telling the AI, "Down dog" but it kept on barking.

Any tips?

This is the Plug and Play answer.

If Bort/Cdog built the interface differently, they would have forced everyone to have these 5 plays for every formation.

This is the Plug and Play answer to vets like yourself and beginners who want to delve stupidly deep.

Scrap the Any tips comment, because that implies that I'm willing to learn a C++ or MS DOS course.

Look here's the issue, and perhaps I am clearly not making myself clear. And I'll-slooooowly-type-metaphor-free.

Human error is always likely to occur, especially by someone who is very new to the interface.

So when a play is called for Short distance, no matter whether it's a pass or run or whatever, the short distance play should override the pass/run inputs. Why? Because protecting Short is important. Distance first. Always.

If there are no suitable plays that match the tag for short and pass, for example, then the AI should dial up the most likely short playcall first, not what's the next best thing for Pass/Run. Why? Because protecting Short is important. Distance first. Always.

See where my logic is left behind? So the tactics screen is exactly how I describe it.

Unengaging. Unyielding. UnFun.

It needs overhauling for n00bs, newbs, rookies and casual gamers. It's currently a sh** fest.

I've said it in Discord, and I'll say it here, I can't wait for GLB3. And I hope that they sort out distance priorities first and foremost on defense. Why? Because protecting Short is important. Distance first. Always.

Oh-oh-oh and while I am making suggestions - as unlikely as I'll be heard - I suggest that the developers of GLB buy Stobie's software and pay him handsomely. Then integrate the software into GLB2.

GLB2 Scout is a pay-to-win premium DLC. I had to buy a season's worth to spot the errors in my playcalling. It doesn't stop the errors, cos I'm clearly cr** at understanding the intent behind Passing is more important than distance, but at least I could spot the error right there and then.

Also, and let me state this clearly as possible. I am not here to learn a coding programme. I am not learning logic gates. Nor heading off to code.org for some [s]basic[/s] programming skills.

I plug in short I expect short.
I plug in long I expect long.

It's really that simple. That should be the premise for GLB3. Not GLB2 cos that's not gonna change.

GLB3. Geddit?

This thread was a complaint not a plea for help.

Strikethrough FFS. You can add that to the list of GLB3 suggestions

(My 9-year-old daughter said that code.org isn't basic, and I believe her)
