That would allow many more teams to go hybrid....and could allow pure zone defenses a few extra points for some of the physicals.

Just looking at a coverage LB I'm making (still rookie).

to get from 18-50 zone awareness will cost me 4200 skill points.

to get from 50-78 (which still isn't very high but is my cap) - 8000 more.

So to get from 18-78 and I expect just get 'ok' at passing zone awareness checks would take 12200 skill points.

I'm not doing it. Too expensive to just maybe be OK at something.

If they increased zone awareness cap at creation -- and halved the cost of zone -- I expect we'd see a ton more zone awareness taken -- and see a greater diversity (to some degree) in defensive playcalling. Just a guess though.

I think there needs to be some more Zone focused traits, the problem would be figuring out how to make it so Man only defenders don't also benefit. Maybe a weaker version of Quick Feet where instead of Speed taking the hit, Man Awareness would?

Quickness: 5% lower SP cost, +3 max
Footwork: 5% lower SP cost, +3 max
Man Awareness: 10% higher SP cost, -10 max

Or an SA that's all about physicals once you pass an awareness check?

+Quickness/Footwork/Speed once you realize it's a running play, or the balls thrown?

it's entirely possible to build a non-S* powerback with 100 power running, 90 sprinting, and 50 in other important stuff.

that would be closing speed and/or chase down

Ya we don't need any more nerfs to the running game thanks.

But running is so OP... I see HBs and QBs still rocking 5-6YPC in games... In all seriousness the running game may be about where it should be in most games but it may need to be buffed back up before long. Next task is to fix defensive coverage on passing without crippling passing.

Chase Down never fires. Well I take that back, it fires on running plays? The player I had with the SA retired so I don't care to keep bringing it up anymore to be fixed.

Chase Down is man coverage only. It also only increases max running speed, which isn't as useful for zone. It'll help a tiny smidgen, but even if it was made zone compatible it wouldn't be good. Quickness needs to be boosted.

Chase down would be eons better as a zone SA. For man it seriously sucks.

The thing that sucked most about it was adding it around season 4 or whatever when the CB back pedalling / spinning was broken --- and then being stuck with it for the rest of the players career when they fixed that garbage

I'm not even sure if it would. If it was a boost to acceleration, maybe. But max speed? Nah. Won't take long before the defender ditches the offensive player and returns to his zone area.

I don't think that's how Chase Down is supposed to work, I don't actually know since I've never used it (nor seen it used), but the tooltip reads as if the QB hasn't thrown the ball yet.

hmm i guess you are right. I always thought it read after the ball was thrown. So it is even more worthless than I imagined.

Yeah, I mean, how many receivers are even capable of separating that far from a corner? Gotta be blazing fast with great headfake/route rolls.
