Personally I would like all players to just start out at a streamlined veteran build. From there each day you could train certain areas that would reflect how your player molds each day. You don't ever see your actual build per say. But you see their combine abilities and how they change. Most of the trainings would improve consistency to what you are trying to mold your player into. Those training sessions done excessively could hamper other areas at the same time. (lots of time spent on distance running could impact quickness negatively while lots of sprint workouts could impact conditioning.)
SA's could still be done the same except they wouldn't rely absolutely on one skill or another significantly. They would just be bonus skills your player uses.
With this method everyone is always playing on the same level. Rookies don't play like peewee players, they just aren't perfectly molded specimens. Less work is put into making every level of play gel differently. Teams don't reset. Salary caps make more sense. Ladder and HoF makes a ton more sense. More fun for all.
Maybe this is an idea they should be kicking around to bring GLB1 back to life. Just sayin...
