How about predictions --- will the newly Pro teams begin having trouble with the newly Vet teams due to the larger chunk of skill points the Vets got?

Seems like a strange wrinkle in the ladder that we spend so much effort (playing outside of tier) to get an accurate ladder ranking system...but then we go ahead and toss an extra several thousand skill points on players when they hit Vet (as if playing up wasn't challenging enough in some cases).

Will be interesting to see if some of those Vet teams that have slid down the ladder a bit...begin inching their way back up out of pure skill point domination.

Haha, I have the utmost respect for Glasgow, Vase, and Air Raid, among others... maybe all three are better than HBurg? But Salty and Hawaii are the class of pro... and sadly have been a step up from the next tier since HBurg consistently wrangled with both of them back in S4

Salty only lost one game to a journeyman team last season, and that was Air Raid. I'm feeling really good about our team this season. We're not gonna hang out around rank 40 for long.

If so, it'll only last until about the first star or so. Pro's will gain ground on them every single game in SP value.

Honestly salty has been one of the most impressive teams in pro. Hawaii is in league of its own but salty is doing it without a single superstar. Andes finally caved and brought in some superstars to try and make up some ground.

Salty is a pure EB team. It's one way to get an edge while climbing to Vet.

What's impressive is that they are so productive so close to the end game. It seems the cap hits that EB causes, doesn't limit you at the upper tiers, but I guess this season will be the real test.

I don't think it's all EB. Salty is run very competently and quietly. The fact that they surpassed Hawaii with its bevy of superstars (actually my favorite superstar Storm Taurus) is a testament to that competence. It's a kind of New England Patriots circa 2002 vibe from them. That's why they were such a fun team to play for a championship.

It's not. I don't want to take anything away from Blastoh and the others.

If anything, they are showing how viable EB is with good builds and gameplans. Which kind of goes against the grain of EB.

I played (and lost) them in Rookie/Soph with the Dolphins. We gave them some tough games but still lost handily.

EB helps in that you have 43 players gaining a 5% advantage. For 43 dots, that's a 215% advantage.

However, it doesn't help as much when there's only 11 players on the field. At CVB, we have 6 S* on O and my job is to get them all on the field for as many plays as possible.

Math on 6 S* is a 120% advantage over 11 players. If you have 11 EB on D, that's only a 55% advantage. You are at a disadvantage for each individual play, but may have a long-term advantage.

Builds and strats matter and Salty has excelled at both.

What I like is that there is a lot of "conventional wisdom" on the forums and Salty takes it with a grain of...wait....sh*t.

PS: TXSteve, I can't rate Vet teams. I have no idea who they are. Playing the same teams more than once on the ladder made me passingly familiar with them. But I've lost that battle.

I don't think you can look at it quite so simplistically as that in a mathematical way. There are so many other factors coming into play.

I feel there are definitely positions and builds where EB is the best choice for the end build, not just for success in lower tiers. It kind of goes against the idea of an early bloomer, but oh well.

Not a ladder matchup yet, but for the current Pro tier's viewing pleasure, there's a really fun first week league matchup between Cleveland Brown and Air Raid against Yukiko Amagi and Harrisonburg Bulldogs.

Both teams are significantly overhauled since last season, with Yukiko Amagi and Randall Cobb moving to Harrisonburg among several other players, and Air Raid adding Stobie and dfwai's S* WRs and new HBs, CBs and a new LB.

We've gone all in to the Air Raid concept harder. I'm expecting Tdiddy's own HB to catch the winning touchdown against his master

Yeah the math doesn't matter as much because the factor that we all know exists is 1.) that Skill Costs go up at higher values & 2.) game planning also matters.

So it's not so simple as Player X gets 20% more SP over Player Y and therefore Player X has a skill of 60 and Player Y a 50.

It's more like a Skill of 56 vs. a Skill of 50.

And that's the math which I agree only matters so much (but it is a starting point).

After that it's build plans and running a game plan that optimizes the strengths of your builds while minimizing the weaknesses.

Somehow I think this will be the season they will feel the pain.
