To me, "wut" itself is a joke. I seriously wasn't sure if you were joking or not. If you made it to high school you should know then, I was trying to come up with reasons, like not being in high school yet, or being from another country as to why you wouldn't get it. I don't care if you dropped out or not, I wouldn't look or treat you differently.
You don't read in a neutral tone. I like a lot of humor, but my preference is hard to convey over the internet because tone is harder to get across on the internet. When people try then most of the time people don't understand it or unsure if you are serious or joking, like your reply, see?
