Lets all just calm down and admit both blitzing and 4-5 WR set pass offenses are broken.

If only there were some kind of mechanic that could be put into place that would let people better block blitzers, while also forcing them to have fewer than 5 wide receivers on the field at a time.

Maybe something that would take other positions, and let you use them as blockers?

Nah, that'd never work in any level of football. Nevermind this dumb idea.

I am not worried the least bit about 5 WR anymore. 4 WR still is tricky only because of the run and pass aspect of it.

Really isn't all that simple. You can't just keep in blockers and most of the time they will run the route instead of staying in. But there is definitely a give a chess game between 2 and 3 WR sets. Spread is tough for a DC but I can slow it down a little bit. 5 WR I can finally handle. Not many people seem to run Big I so I am unsure about that right now.

My point was that it should be easier to keep blockers in. Right now, a FB/TE/HB stays in to block only against 6+ rushers, and only sometimes. But in real football, they stay in to block based on the play called in the huddle. Teams often plan to have only 3 or 4 people running a route. If we could choose to keep our guys blocking more reliably, blitzing would be less ideal, TE/FB/HB would have a reason to invest in pass blocking points, and we'd get a game that involves more of a chess match between OCs and DCs, instead of "OC calls overpowered plays/formations, DCs find the two blitzes that work vs those plays".

Honestly there aren't any "overpowered" plays right now. There are 2 plays that make Spread difficult to defend when used together though. One dimensional teams will get caught up in playing around with some different things until their builds catch up to what they are ideally supposed to stop. Balanced teams should always be just fine.

blitzing is all we have to stop the OP passing... no way blitzing is broken, its not even 1/5th as effective as it was last season.

I would highly disagree.

So you are telling me the teams who ended the season with hundreds of sacks are on pace to do the same thing this season?

Meanwhile top receivers (in terms of catch %) are catching 65% of passes...
