What if you keep the top 10 WL teams in each conference and promote 3 teams from each new pro league?

The 9th and 10th place teams are often pretty competitive and might've been 9-7 or 8-8 and just missed the playoffs due to tiebreakers. Still pretty solid teams though and could've made the playoffs with a break here or there, maybe a result in a game involving 2 completely different teams changes the way tiebreakers are calculated. You can make a better case for 9th and 10th than for 11th and 12th who will probably have a losing record.

So you demote 12 teams and need 12 to promote, that's 3 per league. Take both conference champions, then to decide the 3rd team from the league, take the winner of the game between the 2 CCG losers. They already play on day 40, make that game mean something (since the league championship game on day 40 doesn't mean much).

Every team that promotes to WL will have to have won at least 3 playoff games. That consolation game is already scheduled, so nothing new has to be done there. It keeps quality WL teams in WL and it keeps the pro playoffs still fairly meaningful, plus it makes Day 40 important now.

Cool story. When you defeat a ds team to get out of pro let me know.

Just my two cents, but balking at Pro teams promoting without getting a trophy then rewarding WL teams that could not make the playoffs seems very hypocritical. There is already so little meaningful accomplishments in the game, that if you make staying in WL easier, it just lessens the accomplishment.

sounds good choco. winning 7-8 games in WL is way more difficult than winning 2 pro playoff games.

In the spirit of the Olympics, hand out Pro bronze medals. Then you can also track how a team qualified for WL.

Would just be one playoff win wouldn't it?

Granted it all depends on how stacked these pro conferences are gonna get imo...7 wins in wl really isn't too difficult with effort put in.

Look at snoop's historical WL standings grids. http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=4851780&page=1#44863609

Working backwards, in S29 you had:
5. 9-7-0 Honolulu Hurricane Wife Carriers (USAPL Western, Team #1509.0)
6. 9-7-0 Moose Jaw Roughriders (CPL Western, Team #5692.0)
7. 9-7-0 Wuków Kung Fu Kryptonite Cult (EEPL Zeta, Team #1876.0)
8. 9-7-0 Red Hot Chile Peppers (WEPL Alpha, Team #4542.0)
9. 8-8-0 Empire of Fire (SAPL Dizzy, Team #904.0)
10. 7-9-0 Port Harcourt Playmakers (APL Elephant, Team #5149.0)
11. 7-9-0 Final Season (WEPL Zeta, Team #632.0)
and
8. 9-7-0 Alpine (WEPL Zeta, Team #1711.0)
9. 8-8-0 Nashville Hounds (USAPL Eastern, Team #696.0)
10. 8-8-0 South Side Mafia (SAPL Satchmo, Team #1742.0)
11. 8-8-0 Krungthep Garudas (SEAPL Naga, Team #1600.0)

No ties, but some quality 8-8 teams would've stayed up.

S28:
6. 9-7-0 Oslofjorden Seagulls (WEPL Alpha, Team #3233.0)
7. 9-7-0 Carthage Clash (OPL Alpha, Team #5258.0)
8. 9-7-0 Venom Dotball Academy (EEPL Alpha, Team #4329.0)
9. 9-7-0 Odessa Mojo (EEPL Zeta, Team #6577.0)
10. 8-8-0 GD: Indianapolis Gurupies (OPL Alpha, Team #4813.0)
11. 8-8-0 Newport Newz Pitbullz (WEPL Zeta, Team #548.0)
and
6. 10-6-0 Vancouver Lions (USAPL Western, Team #5018.0)
7. 10-6-0 Nairobi Warthogs (APL Lion, Team #2723.0)
8. 9-7-0 Lolol Roflmaoers (EEPL Alpha, Team #5228.1)
9. 7-9-0 Komodo Dragon (OPL Zeta, Team #5903.0)
10. 6-10-0 E-City Mercenaries (WEPL Alpha, Team #265.0)

So E-City would've been a crappy team to keep up, but was Odessa realyl any worse than the 3 teams it was tied with? Remember how Carthage lost in Week 16, but if they won, then VDA and Odessa would win the tiebreaker against Oslo?

So in that season 4 teams go 9-7, but 3 get to feel good about themselves because they made the playoffs and 1 feels crappy because they missed (nothwithstanding they stayed up due to another team gutting anyway)? And if Nairobi beats MPHD in Week 16, then Oslo goes from being the 6 seed to missing the playoffs altogether, so they have to feel bad about their 9-7 season?

Most 9th and some 10th place teams should feel like they had a good season, even though they missed the playoffs. The line between making and missing the playoffs is sometimes 1 play in an early season game. Those teams usually have a good argument about staying.

You have to draw the line somewhere though, you get to 11th or 12th and those teams would've needed a lot more help and a few plays would not have made them playoff teams.

I think this rewards good teams all around (good pro teams and good WL teams). Hopefully people like this idea and maybe someone with Catch's ear mentions it to him.

are those terrible teams? No

But I wouldn't scoff at the thought of a promoting class of some of the teams that just made their way up and a couple still lingering in pro right now either over any of those teams.
