Leave the southern flags alone. I'm from New England and it wasn't until almost the 1950s that Dixie became a symbol for racism and hatred. The schools at least in the north try to teach students that the Civil War was fought over slavery, when in fact it was a war over State's Rights. Slavery was simply one of many issues, but protectionism, tariffs, and taxes were much larger issues.
The Southern style flags should actually stand for the rights of States to have a larger say in their governing, instead too many people just look at the easy answers.
Movies and Rednecks (North and South of the Mason Dixon Line) certainly haven't helped the issue though.
