Final season rankings aren't very interesting, no - the regular season rankings + playoffs pretty much give the answer away.
However, 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and even 12 weeks in, they can be an interesting discussion point. Due to who you've played to that point and who you have left, the current standings at those points can be quite different from the actual strength of the teams - as evidenced by how the standings will be different at the end of season.
