This is not meant to be a knock at anyone on here but most teachers do not have common sense that is why they teach.

Not all teachers. I've actually known a few teachers (I went to a pretty good school [my parents planned on it when buying a house]) who were very capable and knowledgeable, but they found the academic world more appealing than the practical world. I'm the polar opposite, but it was really cool to have those kinds of teachers. Dudes that really know what they're talkin about can really just stimulate your brain (for lack of a better and less innuendo-inducing phrase)
