I don't know about wasting the cash. A 2% deflect ball becomes 4% when you improve the equipment and at level 32 you have 5 improvements and that makes a 10% increase in the chance to knock down the ball. A +3 jumping plus the upgrades will equal a + 8 jumping at level 32. Not a waste if you look at it that way.
