Can't really bad mouth anyone serving their country regardless of what branch of service/job they do.

But the Navy, have they done anything since WWII other than give us a ride places??

Oh a few little things here and there...

Operation Praying Mantis is a good one.

Also the ships are dangerous enough without hostile people trying to kill you, as a sailor you get the opportunity to be burned, scalded, skewered, crushed, or rarely, drowned...then there are these crazy people who put mines in the water...and we do a good job of protecting ourselves from them...it can take just one to ruin your whole day.

Also don't forget...USS Stark, USS Cole, USS SB Roberts...this excludes the ones and twos who get darwined on normal deployments...or the whole bunches at a time like aboard the USS White Plains and USS Iowa (for example)

Is it fighting in Anbar? No, not at all.

But there *is* stuff going on out there on the water all the time, regardless of if the dirt eaters are shooting or not.

You'd be suprised what they have the National Guard doing these days. As a guardsman myself we spent 2005 in the Anbar province at good old Camp Ramadi serving under the 1st and 2nd MarDiv.

My battalion was actually the first National Guard unit to be honored with being able to wear the 1st and 2nd MarDiv combat patches. Which in itself is kind of wierd seeing as the Marines don't even wear those patches.

the military is stretched way too thin IMO. The National Guard and Reserves should not be deployed in the manner that they have been. The only good thing is that they will be combat hardened when they return which adds to our national security in the invent someone tries some shit on our own soil....let's just hope that doesn't happen while they're all overseas.

I like the guy to be honest...seems more of a genuine person vibe in his on screen manner.

me too. I figured since I was creating an imaginary football player with personality I might as well pick an image of someone who has a some personality. It was either him or Brian Bosworth.

Come on now, you know that the whole thing was restructured to work just like it is right now...putting the *active* into active reserves.

Maybe that's how they run the new military but you never leave yourself stretched thin with minimal resources on your own home front. We've lived far too long on the assumption that nobody would dare hit us on our own land, and I'm not talking small scale bombings. We would be caught with our pants down right now if someone actually had the balls to try it.

I agree with that. In 2005 when Katrina hit they actually had to send some of the Louisianna NG back stateside to help out with that mess and bring in what little remaining troops were available from the other states as well. That was on the natural disaster scale, I would hate to see what happens if there were another attack on US soil the way we are stretched out.
