Arthritis sucks because, as far as I know, there's really nothing you can do to combat it.

depends on the type of arthritis, but yeah, most treatments treat symptoms, and there's not a lot that can be done to 'cure' it.
my dad has rheumatoid arthritis, and there are two basic types of treatment
One is straight up pain management.

The other is the use of 'biologics'; RA is, in essence, your body's immune system attacking other body tissue, most notably cartilage. so this line of treatment lowers your white count. My dad tried this about 18 months ago. of course, you are immuno-compromised when on something like this, and when my dad got sick last yea with something that probably would give a person with a fully functioning immune system a bad cold and maybe pneumonia, , his system couldn't fight it, the infection that ran rampant through his body, leading to septic shock and his respiratory system shutting down. they knocked him into a coma and kept him on a respirator for about a week while shotgunning antibiotics fluids into him.
impossible to say for sure, but we're pretty sure that, had he not been on the humira, his body probably could've fought off the infection on his own.

he obviously does not take it anymore, which sucks, because it was SUPER effective

My mom took her into the vet for me yesterday because prior to that we really werent sure what it was. But yea, they gave us a medication option which basically eases the pain and I think its supposed to prevent it from getting worse. But shes already hobbled.

Why wait ?

I'm not trying to be mean but where is that line for you ? Where do you think that line is for most people because I think it is incredibly selfish of people to allow a dog to live in pain just because the person is emotionally attached and wants to delay their sense of grief and loss.

Because being in pain doesn't mean they want to die?

I mean, you can definitely tell when an animal hits the "given up" stage. Plenty of people live with degenerative diseases, and aren't ready to die quite yet.

I'm guessing that the guy who has repeatedly made jokes and flippant comments about shooting dogs isn't genuinely interested in their quality of life.

Because she just started showing signs of it getting serious (shes not in any pain, she still runs around outside, just with a limp that varies in severity). The doc told us that she is fine right now but its starting to become a problem quicker.

When the time comes where she struggles with everyday dog life or is in obvious pain, then yes, I will not put it off.

Why cut her life short when she still has months of quality life left? We have put down multiple dogs due to the dogs quality of life being the issue.

My wrist hurts everyday.

and yea, if you cant tell a dogs quality of life by their behavior or actions, you shouldnt have a dog.

That's cool and I wasn't pretending to diagnose your dog, you are obviously with the thing every day and are in a better position to judge when the dog has no quality of life left any more.
