I never understood why people keep guns beside the door. If someone breaks in, you're essentially giving them a gun. My uncle used to brag about all the guns he had in the gun cabinet beside the door. It's like...oh, so if someone breaks in they get five thousand dollars worth of guns and a selection to choose from if they want to use it against you.

It's actually probably an effective defense b/c if someone comes in your house specifically to kill you, they've bringing their own gun and there's not much you can do, but if it's just someone there to rob you, they aren't going to bother going past the entryway because they already got more than they could have wanted

also, sitting under your porchlight with a shotgun renders you invisible and protects the rear of your house somehow.

saw it in the movies.

I've never had a bad experience with a Jehovahs Witness, they knock on the door, hand you a pamphlet or prayer book and say something like "we were in the neighborhood and wanted to hand these out" and walk away.

Neither have I. They're also the only multi-international religious group I'm aware of that requires political/military neutrality of it's members.
You don't need the shotgun for them. Save it for the zealots who use violence instead of persuasion.

only? no, there are countless others. or maybe i don't know what "multi-international" means (i don't).

but yes, their refusal to pledge allegiance to any state has gotten them in a lot of trouble in the past. during nazi germany, in particular.

As far as cults go, they are fairly compliant when asked to leave.

I've answered the door 7-8 times with Jehovahs Witnesses, they have all been very pleasant and never attempted to engage in any sort of religious discussion other then handing me a pamphlet or prayer booklet.

Ive seen them coming down the street, and i let my dog out and told him to stay on the porch. My wife and i will look out the window as they walk by, they always speed up when they realize he isnt on a chain.

My dog literally just lays on the deck though. he doesnt even move

Just get a doormat with the Rush 'star in circle' logo on it and you won't get any more 'door knockers'. They'll think you're Wiccan.
