Went to Target with the family tonight to stock up on winter boots/coats for the young 'ens and when we were walking out with several carts full of merchandise, the little door alarm went off when we walked through the scanner so I backed up to wait for an employee to strip search me or whatever it is they do and the cashiers simply waved me through. It sort of made me wonder why they have those things in the first place.

you ever have one of those days at work where you have 10 things going on at once, everything seems to be slightly fucked up and stacked against you, and then your wife calls. Now of course you cant answer the phone because every other person in the company needs you RIGHT THEN AND THERE also. You call back 20 mins later and she gets pissed because "you never answer my calls"

am i wrong to completely cuss her out? can i punch her when i get home?

I also get the 'you don't answer my texts in 5 milliseconds.'

I just continue not to meet those kind of demands and tell her I can't/won't/shouldn't. She has accepted it and reduced the annoyance.

Anyhow, I'm assuming you live near the Seattle area right? What are you planning to do with your vehicle? going to take it off roading? Or do you perhaps just live closer to the mountains? Out of all the vehicles I mentioned the 4runner is by far the most off road capable, and most reliable of the lot, even in its stock configuration. It's a heavy duty body on frame vehicle, with good ground clearance and really beefy components. You look underneath that thing and it looks almost like industrial equipment. This SUV would give the Jeep Wrangler a run for its money off road, yet it's also more comfortable. Another option for the Toyota's are the FJ Cruisers, not the best gas mileage, but very reliable, and comfortable. They're sort of a modernized version of the FJ40, I believe they stopped making them in 2014. The interiors are a little bit funky in these things.

I live in NJ these days. Winters can be pretty bad here. Also live on the side of a very steep hill. So I need something to cope with that, and I do like to drive off road, so figure if I need something for the first thing, I could get a vehicle that does both, but don't absolutely need one (the Xterra/4Runner route would be the luxury option over the CUV route).

Yeah, I would be happy with a 4Runner if I can get one at a decent price. Lot of respect for Toyota 4x4s. Will never buy a Jeep after an experience I had with one, so basically the 4Runner is all that is left like that since the Xterra is gone now.

I wouldn't want an FJ as they are goofy as hell with terrible visibility just for a stupid gimmick exterior.

They are there to alert people sneaking out without buying anything, not someone who just bought a ton of crap. They figure it is extremely likely they missed a single tag in checking out all your items, and that it's unlikely you are going to try to sneak out with a Twix or whatever if you are paying for everything else. Not worth the effort to recheck your entire purchase. They also figure if you didn't pay for something by accident, you will return it. Happens more than you think.

That said, some stores are nuts. We had an older lady get arrested and banned for life from Wholefoods the other day because she walked out with a piece of cheese she hadn't paid for in a cart full of stuff she had just bought. Clearly got lost in the shuffle and things like that happen. Before she was even out the door and not realizing what happened, the security team swarmed. Big outcry and Wholefoods had to issue an apology and they actually ended up firing the security company they subcontract with in the area. And my wife wonders why I detest Wholefoods...

L-O-L. New Jersey winters may be wet, so you get plenty of slushy roads but they are far from bad.

<<<Lived in NJ for 20+ years so don't even.

Is there a reason why we continue to allow "California Psychics" to steal money from dumb people?

While we're at it, is there a reason why Democrats and Republicans haven't united across the isle and decreed that state lotteries are an insult to the people they represent because the laws of mathematics doom those who play them?
