Somewhere about there. And as many times as possible.

I know jack shit about the stock market, but I do see that multiple Vanguard funds are at the top of the list on the mutual funds as far as gains go, so I assume they are doing well.

And yes, I am also retired from the Army, but that only pays the bills if I choose to live alone on a 1/4 acre lot in a trailer eating ramen and riding a bike or walking.

That's what one half of mine is, seemed like a great idea. The less I have to check in, the less opportunity I have to dick it up.

Mine uses Merril Lynch and Blackrock, guess they could have picked worse companies

Still looking for input on the 401K deal but I'm having a separate discussion with a friend about the merits of parking under a tree during a storm with hail and lightning.

Does the minuscule chance of the tree being hit by lightning and totaling up your car outweigh the higher risk of hail fking it up? In a hail/lightning storm where do yall park?

my garage?

lol. i would absolutely park under a tree if i had no other option. your deductible is more palatable if you are spending it to replace your whole car

yeah i think he is weighing the chance that the tree is struck by lightning and then falling on his car, vs the damage the hail itself will do.

That's incorrect.

This^

I was in the same camp of the 'all or nothing' damage deal where either the tree or a big branch falls on my car and totals it so I get a new one vs having a dick ton of dents everywhere that doesn't total it, costs too much for me to repair, and leaves me driving an unsellable golf-ball looking car. Apparently my friend was making the argument for just her car which is too old to do full coverage on anyway so if hers got totaled it's just totaled and the insurance doesn't care

Howso? What should I be investing in as a 22 year old? I really have no idea other than the whole long-term automanaged portfolio which sounds good

he's claiming that the key part of my sentence was not "risk for risk's sake". i'm not sure how he's planning proving that, considering that phrase is literally the subject of my sentence.

he's also claiming that growth and risk are mutually inclusive, which is a particularly stupid claim to make. for example, he could invest in business that involved him deepthroating hobos for free.
