I wonder if there's any records of how many users there were in like Season 10.

That was a good time for GLB.

Kind of crazy to look back at the old trophies..

Season 4, USA BBB #10, GM of Gilead Gunslingers
Western Conference Champ

I can't even really remember the structure.

I think it was 8 regions, with 7 levels per region (Pro A AA AAA B BB BBB) and multiple leagues per level.

XP was base on number of plays, so teams would be all random jumblefrick levels.

that was 16 team leagues,

There was a waiting list to buy a team.

I bet at it's peak GLB had 5000 teams, and the admins were pretty strict about multi accounts. They used to sweep IP addresses.

I feel like there were a bunch, I remember having to fight other teams for recruits and it was rather difficult with the amount of teams competing.

Now this is only a sheet of agents who have dots made in their profile, doesn't count for peeps who dabble in the game saying coordinating and such.
The sheet also doesn't weed out the multi accounts neither, so the number of agents with dots is somewhat inflated

An example I hate to say is myself as I am probably done making dots once all my current dots are gone.

Seeing my name on a list really boosted my confidence. Appreciate this

Yes, it was great back then because there were lots of players. But the actual game play today is better. Coordinating has come a long way, and the accelerated player development is a massive improvement in the overall experience. That cannot be stressed enough. Again, I'll point to the number of agents who've come back and stayed - largely because the game experience itself has improved.

Former agents is an easy pool of potential new players. But there's also so much this game can offer to people out there who have never heard of Goal Line Blitz. It's just a simple awareness campaign.

Refill the game with new agents, creating new dots and new teams, and it will take an already great game to the next level.

codythetiger is probably right - the site could probably use a bit of a design update, heh! And I love mackjrock's idea for an updated user manual. That will be huge for agents who've never played the game before. (I played for years before taking a long break, and even then, when I came back, it was a steep re-learning curve.)

Here's the thing though - there are enough people still around who love the game and are very talented - I think if the GLB brass were to ask, the community would step up to help with things like user manuals. I'm not a designer, but I'd be surprised if there aren't a few here already who'd possibly consider taking something like a 'design update' on as a pet project.

The point is, it doesn't have to cost GLB much.

Even a social media campaign only needs to cost as much as you want to spend. I've done similar campaigns for my real job and set a budget of about $100 per week. If it works, they can consider doing more. If it's a flop, well, you're out a few beers.

I'll also add...there are a distressing number of marquee agents who have been around for a long time - Mauler, Wiseman, Bluesman, for example - who are giving indications that they're not long for the game. If the agents who have supported this game for years finally start leaving, the game will die. Unless measures are taken soon to repopulate.

Back in 08'-09' the game was crazy active, we were actually having to recruit players and the forums were crazy especially in FFA lol. I took like a 9 year break and randomly came back and now have the itch again. Got to bring back either old blood or new blood to keep her going.

I work in tech, my day job is a UX designer, run a product team for nearly 3 years but I work with marketing a lot creating user acquisition funnels, landing pages etc.

If Bort/Admins of the game wanted my help for free I'd be happy to give it. It doesn't seem like Bort is really that interested in active development of the game, I'd assume by this point its just a nice little cash cow as supplementary income and more of a passion project.

Ravenwood if you're keen on trying to get a push from our side to help the game flourish, hit me up.

Thanks, Stabby! Exactly the sort of community spirit that (I think) will go a long way towards keeping the game alive-and-well!

I'm not on Discord. Is there someone here who is, who can maybe send them a link to this thread? There are some good ideas being floated here. A good example...

Raven, the way to bring new agents is Bort setting up a mailing list after the dotpocalypse and inviting people back. He decided not to do so.

Should I pretend I'm shocked? Bort was provided several positive things he could of done, and advised of several negative people he should have let go...and yet here we are.

Bort hasn't been involved in this site for years, and made poor choices when he was here. Whatever "cash cow" exists at this point is a small percentage of what could have been.

Absolutely true. Mulit-accounts lead to instant bans.

I will say, as a returning oldie player, the decrease in dot building time is a double edged sword. Back in the day, you had 10 seasons of building and then 4/5 seasons of plateau, if I remember correctly. Still 30 boosts per player, but they were spread out over a longer period of time. Building a long-term non-free player isn't something I'm interested in, since it's about $40 for 10 seasons (about 450-500 days) for one O-lineman. It was a bit more reasonable (or it seemed a bit more reasonable) when that dot was going to be around for 15 seasons total as opposed to 10.
Thankfully, I do have 4 free player spots, and I have no issues dropping some money on CE. But I won't be building more than that. I don't know if other people feel the same way...

They dropped the flex cost of creating and boosting dots to less than half of what it was, so it's actually a way better value now even with the slightly shorter time frame. It used to be 7 seasons build/5 seasons plateau (12 seasons total), now it's 4 seasons build/7 seasons plateau (11 seasons total). Just FWIW.
