That's what would make a draft around here fun. Players who are weirdly great.

What you are talking about is a mindless draft that takes a lot of time to operate for what exactly? Nothing. Unless it's automated and those players are stuck with that team all season.

I think this is true from the perspective of veteran agents who've been playing for a while. But think about this thru the eyes of a brand new player. I have often thought that new players should be segregated from the sharks for at least a bit when they start. Some agents will take these ass whippings as motivation to improve but the vast majority will give up and quit. Losing is not fun. Its like why more people play poker than chess. The environment we have here breeds chess players. It's not surprising that it's a relatively small group. I advocate for 2 separate leagues. 1 just like we have now, with max superstars and teams built specifically to run like machines and maybe no one likes that player you just built: the chess league. And 1 where everyone gets to play, teams are pretty balanced because you can't build that edge in the design phase and so RNG takes a bigger role: the poker league.

New or old, an actual human controlled draft is just drafting agents and not players. An automated draft seems reasonable. A bunch of players put in a pool and you end up on someones team. It would be better if the scope of gameplanning was just one guy per team and you didn't have the ability to add all the best coaches to every team. That way you couldn't just game the system and end up coaching your players anyways.

Which, to your second point of 2 separate leagues, that is also the problem. New agents role in, get quality coaches who know what they are doing to run their gameplans, and come away with similar results as having a bunch of the best minds together dominating leagues.

Since it's all just hypothetical and won't ever happen, what if we said each agent can only be a coach on 1 team per tier. Again the idea is maximum parity and maximum participation. Automated draft is fine. But i'd like to be able to rank them first somehow. Just so there was a way to see how your cb that entered the draft was ranked (based on caps and skill costs) by everyone drafting. I think it'd be cool if a newbie could see that his cb ranked last and wonder why.

Not sure how you rank a player at rookie level? Seems like a pretty difficult concept.

What are you ranking exactly tho? Outside of past agent building prowess per position?

Going by combine stats would be lulzy at best.

it would be based on how the initial attribute points were assigned and the traits chosen. Basically by building outside the norm would result in lower drafting. It wouldn't need to be exact but just some sort of feedback loop for newer players

Who or what determines what the norm is per position? Seems like a lot of conjecture.

Also seems like a super roundabout way to just load everyone on random teams. Which at the end of the day is the real goal here if we are drafting rookies.

You could have a private draft with invites for teams to join. This way only experienced owners are drafting.

You can then send out invites to experienced builders to join the pool of entered players.

Let's look at some rookie teams this season that may have got an invite.

Popeye's Spinach
Bronx Bombers
Titans Instituting Tyranny
The Practice Squad
Northland Reavers
Blood, Sweat & Beers
Gods of Destruction

You might say what's the point? There really isn't one other than drafts are pretty fun. The best part is being able to work with great agents you normally probably wouldn't have gad a chance to work with otherwise.

Don't expect GLB to ever be on board with this. It would have to be totally user run and organized. Stobie could probably put together a tool to make it happen although I don't see why he would want to without a decent demand for it.
