#1 Arizona Renegades (5-0) vs #5 Attica Blue Devils (4-1)
The undefeated Arizona Renegades, a team that reset and is redoing its rookie season, has looked impressive so far, beating Dumbledore’s Army, Santiago, and Pain Nation, three quality teams. They have relied primarily on their prolific passing attack, with Tifa Lockhart, their QB, as the 7th highest ranked QB in rookie at the moment and Darkwing Duck, their star TE, as the 2nd best TE in the tier. Their one weakness thus far has been on D, having allowed 55 points in 5 games, a relatively high number for a rookie team.
On the other side, you have the 4-1 Attica Blue Devils, a team that has an impressive record but had a lopsided loss in its one signature game. The team is virtually a pure passing team with its QB at #3. However, I think the team has benefitted from a soft schedule and will struggle vs the much more well-tested Renegades. Renegades 21-17.
#2 Detroit Demons (5-0) vs #5 Bier Markt II (4-1)
Another tough matchup between two top 5 teams here. Detroit sports a perfect record and an impressive win against Rated R. Their defense has been able to create a ton of pressure against opposing passing offenses, with their top 3 pass rushers having 31 sacks combined.
On the flip side, you have Bier Markt II, a team with an impressive record and an up and coming owner. Their one blemish was a surprise loss to a rebuilding team, which has to make one worry. Their offense has been working out well thus far, but I’m not sure they can make it through Detroit’s stout D. Demons 17-3.
#3 Strange Music (4-1) vs #17 Valhalla Thunder (3-2)
Strange Music, the team that reset from Sophomore, has impressed significantly thus far, with a huge stomp over Geneva. They have had the best offense in the tier thus far, with the #1 QB as well as the #1 and #3 TE. Valhalla has suffered two close losses, one to Geneva, a one-point heartbreaker. However, I don’t think they will be able to keep this one close. Strange Music 21-3.
#4 Geneva Conventions (4-1) vs #19 Boston Massacre (3-2)
Geneva has had an up and down season, beating contenders Air Farce and Valhalla while getting humiliated by Strange Music. Their TE-centric offense has sputtered thus far, with only 33 points in the four games excluding the New York game, a stomp against a CPU team. Their D has been the shining point thus far, with only 16 points allowed, excluding the anomaly to Strange Music.
The Massacre’s D is also extremely stout, allowing 36 points over 5 games. However, like Geneva, they have struggled on O (it’s never a good sign when your kicker is considered your most prolific offensive player).
This one looks to be a D-centric matchup. Going to go with the safer choice here – in a snooze-fest. Geneva 7-3.
#5 Inner City Kids (4-1) vs #17 Houston Mountain Lions (3-2)
Inner City is run by an experienced owner, who plans on resetting the team after this season. Houston is run by a newer owner, who has one signature game, a 3-possession loss to Air Farce. It will be interesting to see if Houston has what it takes on D to stop Inner City’s pure-rushing attack, or if Inner City will rack up the points. I’m going to bet on the proven commodity here. Inner City 21-10.
#8 Santa Ana Commando Killer Squad (4-1) vs #8 Summoner’s Rift Champions (4-1)
SACKS was upset by Boston last week in ladder, with a lacklustre offensive performance leading to one field goal. Similarly, SACKS struggled against the California Dust, winning 6-0 on a touchdown in overtime. That type of offensive performance will not be enough against Summoner’s Rift, a one-man show from a League of Legends fan. On the flip side, Summoner’s Rift has mostly beaten on weaker teams, and may struggle against SACK’s The Dark Penetrator, the #2 ranked defensive player in the tier. Going to go with a low-scoring affair here, with SACKS pulling out a close one. SACKS 10-7.
#8 Cleveland Barons (4-1) vs #13 Santiago Sharks (3-2)
The Barons are a Vet reset team, with some proven wins over good teams. They beat Dumbledore’s Army in league last week, and have a win over another top 10 team, Summoner’s Rift. Even with a loss to Rated R, they have shown to be tough competition.
On the other side, we have Santiago, a rookie championship team last season that has surprisingly struggled out of the gate. After two surprising losses to start the season, they’ve racked up three lopsided wins. Led by Jarod Vela, the #1 ranked defensive player in the tier thus far, they will be tough to beat. Going to go with the minor upset here, as I’m not sure the Barons will have the opportunity to score enough. Sharks 14-3.
