Just like Bhall. The Sperm Whales are doing this as well

with the Lurk plays the only Hybrid plays a full Hybrid Defense might be a few seasons (and new defensive plays) away

You aren't gonna close any gaps with 65-75 speed. That is why zone is terrible. They need speed/quickness (maybe even awareness) bonus's for closing in on the ball when it is in the air at the very least. Probably even prior to that.

Not if they don't have to cover a lot of ground, which is the whole reason zone exists.

The ground they have to cover is enough to where they need to react super fast. Otherwise it is just blind tricking of the AI.

Reaction <> speed. Reaction = quickness. Speed comes into play when defender has to cover a long distance.

Speed is speed. 100 Quickness and 0 speed does not make a fast reaction.

Well, I guarantee 0 quickness and 100 speed = very slow reaction. Sure you will be flying once you hit max speed but it will take a while to hit max speed.

The point is that speed is your max speed. Not quickness. Your closing in reaction isn't meaningful if it isn't fast. Take a look at DD3.0's win today or Hostile Takeover. The only time their zone was meaningful was when HT's offense banded their targets together in a cluster otherwise they were picked apart all over the place.

Obviously that isn't gonna change much either as its evident GLB doesn't believe in the full zone defense because it isn't realistic. So what you see at the moment is pretty much what you are gonna get for the most part in terms of all zone.

Don't think that's possible. Not enough SP to go around unless you had a S* studded defense.

which is exactly why zone defenses fail, lol

Absolutely. Every time I get bored and try and construct a zone roster, you need a ton of the teams total cap going towards D. GE's Zone D might end up working, he's got the salary cap invested for it.

Seems the simplest way to get more zone defensive plays called (diversity is a good thing after all) would simply be to cut the cost of zone awareness in half.

That would allow many more teams to go hybrid....and could allow pure zone defenses a few extra points for some of the physicals.

Just looking at a coverage LB I'm making (still rookie).

to get from 18-50 zone awareness will cost me 4200 skill points.

to get from 50-78 (which still isn't very high but is my cap) - 8000 more.

So to get from 18-78 and I expect just get 'ok' at passing zone awareness checks would take 12200 skill points.

I'm not doing it. Too expensive to just maybe be OK at something.

If they increased zone awareness cap at creation -- and halved the cost of zone -- I expect we'd see a ton more zone awareness taken -- and see a greater diversity (to some degree) in defensive playcalling. Just a guess though.

I think a pass-heavy offense with no superstars on it would allow for enough cap space to jam a shitton of S*s on defense.

I was thinking something like that or "powerbacks" with 90 speed. Quotations because they wouldn't stand up to conventional powerbacks in a pissing contest. But the speed would probably be needed unlike conventional backs, since they couldn't just bowl over every defender in their way.
