Yeah...I dont think his idea is practicable.
Unless you do it over an "invite" function. You invite someone to watch a game with you via chat or sth.

Still...I think there are way better suggestions in thios forum so far. especially mine ofc

And there's also a lot of other logistical issues and complications. Like, is it just a chat room for everyone watching the game at any time? If it's somehow tied to watching it play out, how does that work with people that take longer to load than others? Do they just get left behind? Does it wait until the slowest person watching catches up? If it is asynchronous, what about posted spoilers?

Then you have moderation that's needed, because people spamming racial slurs obviously isn't acceptable, so there has to be a big interface to handle that, along with moderators that I'm not even sure how they would work because surely they can't be everywhere at once. So then there needs to be a chat report feature, along with a place for mods to view the chat reports.

And...all that for something a small handful of people might enjoy.

It would definitely be an awesome third party feature, because third party things have the benefit of "if you don't like it, fuck off". But it's far from practical on our end.

What about a "game of the week" option where the users vote on the off day of what game they want shown. As far as slurs, etc, give users the ability to ignore chat from people. No clue what type of coding work taht would take, but I would absolutely be interested in watching it every week. I'd imagine most of your high flex users would as well.

Ability to watch a game replay in a group -- ie: all watching the same game replay screen - so could chat / analyze / cheer / cry together as the game progressed.

Just looking at a game this week -- how fun would it be if 10 or more people were watching the Assassins / Harrisonburg game - play by play -- rooting for whichever team you chose in the chat. It would be 1000 times better than what happens now: watch the game by yourself - make a post saying "what a game" or whatever.

(edit: stobie maybe that is something you could add to the scout site!)

I did a quick sketch for this a long while back (s2? or so). I'll see if I can dig it up on my computer (no matter corndog's thoughts )

Two things.

One, instead of how fun would it be, how embarrassing and useless would it be if there were zero people, which would be the case for 99% of the games.

Secondly, it would be an open endorsement for the "watch party" hacky thing to watch the games as they sim...which would cause uproars when a game needs to be resimmed.

I hear you. but embarrassing? Really? If that's is the case -- simply have 5 or 10 instances available -- and have Stobie (or someone) choose the 'games of the week' that will be in the theater that day.

secondly - I've been playing GLB since season 1 of glb1 (with a large break in there) - of the hundreds of games I've watched unfold live -- I've never seen a single case of a re-sim. Not one.

So I think this phantom fear of disaster is kind of unfounded -- if a resim is needed - a resim is needed -- do you think there be a bigger riot than we've seen from other real issues?? sims break. Servers hiccup. Servers crash. Software bugs. I think people can live with that.

Bitch to find. Apologies for the head tilt. Translating into notes:

A Game Center that creates an ongoing environment where users can go to watch league/ladder games in a social atmosphere. Since everything sims in waves, it creates league environments.

Main parts of the page are "current games", "upcoming games", "chat" and "a spectator/viewing window". The viewing window allows someone to load any game they want from the list of ongoing games and jump right into the replay at the current spot it holds (or maybe 1 behind, whatever is needed).

The current games window would update as scores happened, allowing those in chat to see the changing scores as the games went on.

agree - I think it would be a great feature for Stobie (or someone else) to implement. I know nothing about programming - so afraid I don't have the skills to do anything.

But seriously -- why can't we have tournaments?

I've seen 1 have to be resimmed, but it didn't finish. It froze in the 3rd QTR and never finished.

love it romo. In my opinion - anything that creates a community feel is great for the game. I love your sketch - but I think it could start even simpler.

This week: aa vs harrisonburg and mma vs air raid.

sim starts in play by play 30 minutes after sim time (to avoid those annoying breaks where a long play happens).

Just like youtube (kind of) - sim playing in a box....and group chat beneath it.

As funny as some of us are in the forums -- making excuses for losses -- moaning and complaining about a bad luck play --- or a missed field goal -- or a fumble -- or whatever...would just be so much more fun live during a game-cast.

1st series: "ah crap -- didn't expect you to do that...I'm in trouble" -- fumble the opening kick off? "SUCH BS" -- kicker goes 0 for 3? insanity.

paraboon's run defense stuff being pointed out every play
end of half logic "HOW DID WE PUNT THERE?!?!??!"
great plays
last second come backs

all more fun and interesting and community building than a post or two after the fact.

Based on the extreme complaint threads and demands that we switch hosts every time there's a network hiccup, I'm going to disagree.

Also - I could be very wrong - but I was thinking maybe Stobie started this thread looking for possible future features for his scouting tool (I could be wrong though)

I'd actually say a better focus on getting new players interested and retaining them. I generally make it a point not to criticize anyone else's business model, but as this is a "wish" thread I'd just generally say I've never seen a business with less emphasis on attracting new customers and then transferring them into payment status.

Would have been great to have a steady flow of new people with new ideas.

It seems like every new player uses their free slot on QB, HB, or WR. They struggle to find teams as well as playing time since those positions get flooded. If users were offered a free player for the 50 flex tier in addition to the normal free player. They'll have an easier time finding human owned teams, and that could keep them around.

Also, some kind of notice for new players that if you retire your free player, you don't lose the free slot, you can make another one. Maybe a PM is automatically sent to every new account with a mini-FAQ about free players covering, boosts, retire/remaking, attributes can be dropped below 5, etc. Since there is no tutorial here, this game is pretty unfriendly to the new user unless they scour the forums.
