Let's say they do QB rollouts 100% of the time on the weak side 50% of the time and 100% QB rollouts to the strong side the other 50% of the time?

They can make a depth chart that loads the blockers to the correct side every time.

What if 50% of the games someone runs RQB out of diamond and 50% of the games they throw the ball? Without tagging, the DC is just guessing, which was the whole reason we didn't give people formation specific depth charts after the test server.

you're always guessing anyways if someone has an RQB and a PQB. >_<

Yeah, but there is a reason that we don't allow formation specific.

You don't want them to be able to put their RQB in for trips plays in some games and then their PQB in for other games.

C'mon, you and I saw how broken things got with formation specific depth charts...

As long as you have a specific depth chart for defense it's fine. The problem on the server was that you couldn't cover pro set and the rest of the I plays at the same time because the d charts weren't specific to each formation. I said I wanted specific tags per formation but bort didn't like that so he just took away the o depth charts instead.

Yeah, but you see how it is still OPed having a specific depth chart for a formation, even if the D can "guess" attempt to counter it, right?

O1: PQB, Run O-line weak side, pass o-line strong side
O2: PQB, Run O-line strong side, pass o-line weak side
O3: PQB, 100% pass o-line
O4: RQB, 100% run o-line, BWRs on one side or the other

O1 gives you easy throws and gives you outside running plays to the weak side.
O2 gives you easy throws and gives you outside running plays to the strong side.
O3 gives you strong pass protection.
O4 gives you strong run blocking to any side that you want.

If an OC cycled those four depth charts through, as a DC how would you game plan to stop that one formation when it came up? Note that you can, as an OC, have different plays for short passing, medium passing, very short running, inside running, and outside running. They hold all the cards.

Then they can run a totally different game plan for the other formations using the regular depth chart. You as DC can choose one or two formations just to stop that one formation, but if you overlap with any other O formations against it, you might well be sending out the exact wrong players.

Corn, just put a FB2 on the main DC and end this argument.

That guessing game is already in. The guessing game isn't the reason for the removal of the o depth chart. The fact you couldn't possibly defense all 2 or 3 wr formations under that chart correctly was why it went away. I don't really care that some guy has a rqb and pqb as a dc. At some point he's gimping his team in some way.

It was there before this discussion even started, so there's that.

For anyone interested I ran 4 scrims today using the new Diamond formation for roughly 80% of plays. I didn't change any of the special situations so we went to a more default offense in the red zone and 3 minute offense. Each game had the exact same tactics so there's a good mix of the run and pass plays.

Legacy @ Erkner
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/game/96726
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/96726/

Erkner's base D did a good job of stopping the new formation.

Legacy @ Detroit
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/game/96727
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/96727/

The new formation is pretty strong against ZEB.

Legacy @ Northwest
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/game/96728
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/96728/

Northwest's base D did a pretty good job against the new formation but there were several nice plays, too.

Legacy @ Mongolian
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/game/96729
http://glb2.warriorgeneral.com/game/replay/96729/

The new formation looked really good against Mongolian. I think my defense during the first three quarters helped drive the score.

I have two FBs so I didn't have to play anyone out of position. I had actually considered dropping down to one FB but decided against it. That could work in my favor.
