Religion is the first step to spirituality. Unfortunately it is usually the only step people take.

Your use of "everyone" though is obviously an exaggeration (prolly intentional). Just stating that were not all like that.

Yeah. Attackers of traditional faiths tend to wing around the "you were born that way" thing, but its over done in my opinion. Alot of people of strong faith came to it later in life and in a direction other than their birthright.

Tbh, it will prolly stay more civil in here. It takes about 5 posts for the mudslinging and typical talking points to start flying in that forum. Nothing ever gets accomplished, just more of the same partisan bickering.

I think any religion that says it's the only "correct" religion and implies that it's the duty of its patrons to "correct" people who believe in different things is being rather short-sighted. A lot of the problems caused by religion in the world can be attributed to these issues.

Only a partial exaggeration to be quite honest... I've known a lot of religious people who get on my nerves, by flaunting their "religion" in my face... Gets a little annoying...

Either way, I love you all

Thats true

But its also true that without guidance alot of kids or weak minded or troubled folks wind up in nit wit cults.

And its a fact of history that religion helps society (evolutionary theory tells you this since all societies that have survived to the modern age were ones with religious peoples).

So while on a spiritual level I agree its not sound, it probably was sound social/political policy.

As far as the problems that is causing today, that is more a matter of some civilizations, religion and all, having not quite reached the level of civilization as modern societies. Give it another hundred years and those azzhatteries will have come around to a modern live and let live way of life. Always will be some knuckleheads, of course. But they will not have the level of support they do today.

There is a difference between being religious, testifying about ones own life changing faith finding, and being the Used Car Salesman yelling at you on the TV or the Door to Door sales pitch.

If someone brings the subject up, as happened here, then I am Johnny on the Spot to defend those of faith. And as a matter of gratitude I tag my teams with a message, not something I used to do before. But I am no fan of the in your face sales pitch crowd. And they certainly exist.

But I have to say its been my experience that the various varieties of the followers of the UnGod are the most likely to offend in that regard. For some reason people who pretend their entire religious view point is supposed to be about Not Knowing somehow feel compelled to make sure everyone else shares their certainty that Not Knowing means there is no God. Some basic insecurity going on there I think, or kiddies who just really resented going to church on Sunday. But as we see here, some folks feel a need to toss religious attacks around for no particularly good reason. Far more than the other way, unless you live down the street from the Mormon Temple or the Jehova Witness Church I suppose.

But anyway, yes, its annoying.
