Finley v Davis... Rodgers vs Smith.... your arguments.... and perspective

this really does sum it all up. In the end if your talking all round tight end Finley is a long way behind Davis. Does being a top 5 receiving TE and a top 5 blocking TE, not to mention being the most physically gifted TE to ever step on a football field make up for Davis running par routes? Yes.. So if Finley's route running makes up for all the other stuff Vernon does better then yes you can have Finley and I'll take the freak of nature anyday.

I didn't even realize this place existed until a few days ago. I checked it at the beginning of the yr and it looked like a ghost town so I never looked back until 2 days ago and when I saw mad clown posts here I figured I was in.

Also, here are some telling stats:
Davis - 67% of targets caught
Witten - 79% of targets caught
Gates - 73% of targets caught
Daniels - 76% of targets caught
Clark - 76% of targets caught
Miller - 83% of targets caught

Well then don't enter this conversation, rj. You are judging SOLELY by stats and not by watching the player.

- these numbers are vaguely relative to the discussion because of the depth of routes being run, and the quality of qb throwing the ball... without spending the 30 seconds to list the qb's of the other TE's... Alex Smith is the weakest.

If Vernon Davis has over 800 yards and 10 TDs next year, I'll be the most surprised guy around. He's a 1-trick pony.

Once again you give Witten a reprieve with his lack of TD's but hold Davis to Pro Bowl numbers. And I'll give you that Davis is a 1 trick pony, and that trick in '09 was Play Maker! I don't care how sloppy his cuts; every week Defenses knew what Davis was going to do, and you know what: they didn't (couldn't) stop it

Imagine if the Niners can actually run and throw out of the same formations this season... they will be scary and all the receviers may actually run different "types" of routes.

this is beautiful that the NFL thread has become a 11-85 conversation. If 11 pulls his weight this season 85 could break more records.

Ever heard of Germane Crowell, Ickey Woods, Marcus Robinson, Koren Robinson or Marv Cook? They are all 1 hit wonders. Teams will have the film on Davis and you better bet they'll do a better job guarding against those routes. Anyways, I am done with this argument. Believe what you want but a TE who can't run routes is just bad news.

that doesnt matter much , teams knew he was good up the seem all year long and they couldnt defend it. Now with a better oline, Crabtree here the whole season expect bigger numbers from the entire team.
